Biography

In April 1988 the 'BeatleFan' magazine revealed that drummer Zak Starkey, son of THE BEATLES Ringo Starr, had just turned down an offer to perform with high profile Norwegian Pop band A-HA in order to concentrate on his newly formulated ICE project. Starkey's career path to this point had included terms with THE NEXT, MONOPACIFIC, NIGHTFLY, John Entwistle's THE ROCK and ASHTON.

For ICE, Starkey played drums, guitars, and percussion with ex-DARK CITY man Amos Pizzey supplying the lead vocals. Pizzey had also forged a reputation as a session singer for CULTURE CLUB and had scored a US number 1 single, 'Wild Wild West', with THE ESCAPE CLUB.

ICE issued the album 'A 2 Z' through Teichiku Records in Japan during April 1990. These sessions, which included a cover version of the ROLLING STONES 'Under My Thumb', had been recorded between December 1989 and January 1990 at Korner Recorders, London; West Side Studios, London; Ridge Farm Studios, Surrey and Startling Studios, Ascot. Session musicians included WHITESNAKE's Micky Moody on slide guitar, Andy Barnett of FM on rhythm guitar, ex-DARK CITY and future SKUNK ANANSIE bassist Cass Lewis, guitarist Les Davidson, keyboard player Simon Hale, rhythm guitarist John Cambridge plus Ted Bunting on tenor saxophone.

ICE performed Japanese club shows in June 1990.
