Biography

A collective from Bradford fronted by 'Slade The Leveller' (Justin Sullivan) and named after the civil war parlimentary forces. The original band was a trio rounded off by bass player Stuart Morrow and drummer Robb Heaton. Morrow decamped in mid 1985 to be superseded by Jason 'Moose' Harris who made his debut with the 'Ghost Of Cain' album.

Moose was replaced by former PSYCHO CIRCUS, COPROPHILE, NATIVE TONGUE and BROTHERHOOD OF LIZARDS man Nelson in 1989. Moose later joined the DAMNED and THE PANTS.

During a lull in NEW MODEL ARMY activities Nelson rejoined BROTHERHOOD OF LIZARDS for a Japanese tour in a band also including Captain Sensible of the DAMNED and XTC's Dave Gregory. Upon Nelson's return to Britain he was inducted back into NEW MODEL ARMY.

Chris McLaughlin decamped to create LOUD in 1989 scoring a deal with China Records. Following splits in the ranks of LOUD another NEW MODEL ARMY refugee bassist Stuart Morrow, having played with Thrash Metal act SLAMMER and KILL II THIS during the interim, joined LOUD in 1992.

NEW MODEL ARMY folded in 1994 but made a return for the 1998 album 'Strange Brotherhood'. Joining Sullivan and Heaton on the new venture were Nelson, guitarist Dave Blomberg and keyboard player Dean White. Heaton, Rhodes and Morrow were also operating under the name of GARDENERS OF EDEN.

The drummer would be diagnosed with a brain tumour, undergoing surgery in 1998. After suffering further with pancreatic cancer, he would die suddenly on 4th November 2004.
