Biography
Paris based HEAVENLY was founded during 1994 by vocalist Ben Sotto and drummer Maxence Pilo, originally as a covers band dubiously entitled SATAN'S LAWYER. With the evolution into HEAVENLY came guitarist Anthony Parker and the ensuing three track demo session. These recordings were soon snapped up by the German Noise label but not before Parker made his exit. HEAVENLY soldiered on drafting two new members in guitarist CHRIS SAVOUREY, who had three prior solo albums to his credit, and bassist Laurent Jean.
HEAVENLY's debut album 'Coming From The Sky', cut in Hannover and Hamburg during February 2000 and produced by Piet Sielck of IRON SAVIOR, would see both Sielck and GAMMA RAY mainman Kai Hansen guesting. Digipack versions added two exclusive tracks in 'Defender' and 'Promised Land'.
HEAVENLY's debut sold in quantity and the group would land the prestigious tour support slot to STRATOVARIUS in Europe. Just prior to these dates Pierre-Emmanuel Péllison supplanted Jean on bass and Frédéric Leclercq joined to bolster their live sound on keyboards. The line-up shuffles were far from over though as Savourney decamped and Leclerq took over the lead guitar mantle. Savourney would create NORTHWIND, bowing in with the 2002 album 'Seasons'.
A second album, 'Sign Of The Winner' produced by Tommy Hansen, emerged in September of 2001. Japanese variants of the January 2004 album 'Dust To Dust', mixed by former HEAVEN'S GATE man Sascha Paeth, would sport a version of the title track sung in Japanese. HEAVENLY suffered a serious fracture in the ranks during April as guitarist Frédéric Leclercq, bassist Pierre-Emmanuel Pélisson and drummer Maxence Pilo all exited. The defecting trio announced they were to form an all new band entitled SUXEED, by May having enlisted the Danish singer Søren Nico Adamsen, previously with STARRATS. This new endeavour switched title to MALADAPTIVE in November.
HEAVENLY would be back in the studio in March of 2005, recording demos in preperation for a new album. That October Frederic Leclercq joined the ranks of UK outfit DRAGONFORCE as fill-in bassist for US gigs.
In March 2006 Pélisson announced the formation of a new "atmospheric, bone-crushing power metal" band called CIVILIZATION ONE. Here he would be joined by an international roster of players comprising Sri Lankan born vocalist Chity Somapala, a veteran of AVALON, FARO, MOONLIGHT AGONY, RED CIRCUIT and FIREWIND, guitarist Aldo Lanobile of SECRET SPHERE, the SHADRANE and LALU credited Vivian Lalu on keyboards plus Luca Cartasegna, from MORTUARY DRAPE and SECRET SPHERE on drums.
HEAVENLY's fourth album, entitled 'Virus', issued in France in November 2006 via XIII BIS Records, also delivered in a limited-edition digipack that included the video for the song 'Spill Blood On Fire'. AFM Records gave the album a wider European release in January 2007.
April 2007 European and UK tour dates for HEAVENLY saw a package deal united with AFM Records label mates JON OLIVA'S PAIN and NOSTRADAMEUS.
