In 2002 ENTWINE vocalist Mika Tauriainen debuted his Gothic Rock project TEARS, a creative union with Matti Reinola of FOUR BITCHES and GRAYSCALE, issuing an EP 'Pieces' in February of that year. For these recordings they would be joined by SOURCE OF DEMISE guitarist Daniel Freyberg, keyboard player Matti Reinola, pianist Robert Blomerus and GRAYSCALE drummer Janne Jukarainen (a.k.a. 'Perversor' of SOURCE OF DEMISE). However, as soon as the band received the EPs back from the manufacturers they discovered the existence of another Finnish act already laying claim to the title.

By November of 2003 the project had evolved into SHAMRAIN. The debut album 'Empty World Excursion', recorded at F-Field Studio in Lahti, was released in November 2003 through Watch Me Fall Records.
