Biography

Tampere Hard Rock band SNAKEGOD came together during 1998, initially as a WHITESNAKE and DIO covers band. A set of demos crafted the following year landed the band a contract with German label MTM Music for the album 'Invitation', mixed by TT Oksala and released in September 2001. Drums on this outing would be recorded by DIABLO's Heikki Malberg but soon after completion of the tracks the band pulled in new members keyboard player Jani Hölli and MICHAEL MONROE band drummer Kari Lahtinen.

SNAKEGOD employed MURDREAD drummer Christian Määttä for tour work in Germany during 2002 as Lahtinen returned to the MICHAEL MONROE band. SNAKEGOD singer Jari Tiura would lend backing vocals to fellow Tampere Heavy Metal band MASTERSTROKE's 2003 demo 'Children Of The War', then join the band as frontman. The SNAKEGOD rhythm section of bassist Arto Tissari and drummer Janne Juutinen are also MASTERSTROKE members. Tissari also cites credits with SHAMAN, CRYSTALIC and KORPIKLAANI whilst Juutinen has a heritage with DIMENSION and CRYSTALIC.

SNAKEGOD keyboard player Jani Hölli would found Gothic Rockers SOULRELIC in 2003, recruiting ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW and FLESHTONE guitarist Antti Talala, his brother Pekka on bass guitar, former ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW and REFLEXION drummer Reiska Pohjola plus BLEAK CROWD singer Tommy Suomala.

SNAKEGOD contributed their rendition of 'Anniversary' to the ROBERT PLANT tribute album 'Plant Waves' in 2004. That same year it was revealed that Jari Tiura had joined the MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP. In mid 2006 the singer was fronting an all new project dubbed STARGAZER involving guitarist Pete Ahonen of BURNING POINT and GHOST MACHINERY, bassist Jukka Jokikokko of SCARLET THREAD, keyboard player Marco Sneck of POISONBLACK and KALMAH with Jarkko Huhtela on drums.

Despite Jari Tiura being active as frontman for the MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP, SNAKEGOD set about new album tracks in November 2006.
