Biography

Hard Rock outfit RIFF RAFF dates to a 1979 formation, coming to attention with a third placing at the national 'Rock Finnish Masters' band competition in 1980. This exposure scored the band a recording deal with the Poko label and the following year RIFF RAFF contributed the songs 'I'll be Gone' and 'Rock'n Roll Star' to the compilation album 'Heavy Metal & Live'. The first album, 1981's 'No Law And Order', saw drummer Eski Palosaari handling lead vocals.

The group switched to the Mirror imprint for their next opus, the Antti Porkka produced 'Robot Stud'. For this outing Immu Ilmarinen took command of the vocals. RIFF RAFF guitarist Ruki Kikkonen quit after the 1982 album 'Robot Stud' being replaced by Korsberg. The 'Give The Dead Man Some Water' album, produced by TT Oksala and featuring new bassist Kessler Raatikainen, includes a version of THE WHO's 'Baba O'Riley'. Drummer Eski Palaosaari opted to use the pseudonym El Pasaderia for this last record. Unfortunately, although RIFF RAFF had crafted a fine set of Hard Rock tunes, the record was universally lambasted for its terrible sleeve art.

Mastervox Records re-issued both 'Robot Stud' and 'Give The Dead Man Some Water' on CD format in 2003. The former added two extra tracks in 'Dreaming' and 'I'll Be Gone'.
