Biography

Oulu Death Metal band founded in 1987 under an original billing of CRIMINAL ASSAULT. This unit, comprising singer Hannu, Tommi Määttä and Sami Taimela on guitar, Miku Mertanen on bass and Janne Kela of LYCANTROPHY on drums, released a three song demo in 1988. However, disatisfaction with Hannu's performance led to his dismissal and, newly titled as SACRED CRUCIFIX the band issued a follow up demo 'Realm Of Darkness' in June 1989. This tape secured valuable underground acclaim but progress was stalled when both Määttä and Kela were drafted for their national military service and Mertanen relocated to Sweden.

SACRED CRUCIFIX regrouped in 1993, bringing onboard new faces Tommo on vocals, Jarkko on guitar and bassist Essi. A further demo tape was recorded but did not meet with the band's expectations.

The band resurrected itself during October of 2002, enlisting BURNING POINT's Jukka Kyrö on guitar alongside Tommi Määttä. However, Kyrö's responsibilities with his main act soon forced him out of the picture and Tero Kemppainen took over the position. His stay too would be brief and in November of 2003 original member Sami Taimela was welcomed back into the fold. SACRED CRUCIFIX signed an album deal with Poison Arrow Records in January 2004, recording a new album entitled 'Aeon Of Chaos' at at Tonebox Studio in Oulu. The record was mastered at Finnvox in Helsinki.

The group engaged in the 'Creatures from the North' tour of Finland throughout February and March, sharing stages with MAPLE CROSS and NATIONAL NAPALM SYNDICATE. A limited edition, three way split EP, featuring new song 'The Last Path' was distributed during this trek through Verikauha Records.
