Biography

Formed in 1992 by erstwhile BELIAL guitarist Jukka Valppu, Oulu based MYTHOS released a brace of demos starting with 1993's 'Moulded In Clay', recorded at Tico-Tico Studios in Kemi over just 20 hours, whilst undergoing intense line-up changes. The band membership for the 'Moulded In Clay' tracks comprised vocalist / guitarist Kimmo Korkala, ex-BELIAL guitarist Jukka Valppu, bassist Antti Remes and the GOD FORSAKEN credited drummer Teemu Hautanieemi.

The group finally settling on the combination of Vappu, Hautanieemi, vocalist / guitarist Tony Pekkala and bass player Mikko Laurila before signing to French label Evil Omen. Having had tracks on the compilation album 'Vociferous And Machiavellian Hate', MYTHOS would release their one and only album, 'Pain Amplifier', featuring a CARCASS cover version 'Reek Of Putrefaction', in 1994. An EP, 'Dark Material', followed. This set was crafted at Neo Studios in Oulu and saw Harri Paasovaara handling bass with Sami Kukkohovi contributing additional guitars. Subsequent demos included 'Revenge' in 1997, now with Mikko Rojola as lead vocalist, Lede on bass and Vesa Hietala on lead guitar, and a self-titled 1999 session. This latter set saw MYTHOS back to a quartet with Hautaniemi, Vappu and Rojola joined by Jyrki Hiltunen on guitar. Also figuring on bass for MYTHOS would be Timo Lehtinen of MOGULOS, CATAMENIA, KALMAH and END OF YOU. The final MYTHOS line-up, in 2000, included drummer Juho Raappana.

Mikko Laurila subsequently worked with THE BLACK LEAGUE and would session for IMPALED NAZARENE's 1995 'Sex Cyber & Rock n' Roll' tour. Post MYTHOS, Jyrki Hiltunen and Juho Raappana would journey through various bands since then, including SYNTHETIC SOUL and MOGULOS, on their way to founding Progressive Metal band IMPISH. Raappana also operated with both GRIMDAR and CATAMENIA. Meantime, Teemu Hautaniemi subsequently worked with BARCODE and Stoners FIREWALL.

Jukka Vappu returned in 2006 with a new band unit entitled VIOLENT HAMMER, a Kuusamo based Death Metal band involving frontman Matti Viitala, DEATHMANTRA guitarist Lasse Limma, bass player Kalle Salmivaara and drummer Ari Mikkola.

Ex-drummer Juho Raappana joined ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW in December 2008.
