Biography

Oulu Black Metal act BLACK SWAN features personnel from a variety of other Metal acts including DOLORIAN's Ari Kukkohovi on drums, Toni Kansanoja of BURNING POINT on bass, the DOLORIAN, HALO MANASH, AEOGA and I. CORAX singer Antti Ittna Haapapuro with Jaakko Tuomivaara of PROMETHEAN on keyboards.

The group had been initiiated in February of 1995 by erstwhile BEHEMOTH musicians guitarist Tapio Palokangas and Jaako Tuomivaara. As a duo they cut the first BLACK SWAN recordings as a 1996 demo. Expanding the project into a full band unit they subsequently drafted second guitarist Mikko Tolonen, previously with FAIRY TALE, Jari Kaiponen of NORTIA on drums and another ex-BEHEMOTH man Toni Kansanoja on bass. Last in would be frontman Antti Ittna Haapapuro. However, prior to undertaking any live work Kaiponen was replaced with the DAGON credited Ari Kukkohovi. Kaiponen would later earn credits with BURNING POINT and NATIONAL NAPALM SYNDICATE.

A second demo recording, 'Autumn In Eden', arrived in 1997. BLACK SWAN issued the September 1998 'When The Angels Of Twilight Dance' album, recorded at Neo-Studio by Immu Ilmarinen, through Mastervox.
