Biography

BATTLELORE are a mythologically inspired Black Metal formation out of Lappeenranta, forged by guitarist Jyri Vahvanen in 1996 as a side project. Some two years later Vahvanen would assemble BATTLELORE as a full band inducting vocalist / guitarist Tommi Havo, bass player Miika Kokkola and drummer Gorthaur, the latter of HORNA repute.

This incarnation of BATTLELORE put out the 'Warrior's Tale' promo in 1999 utilising a session vocalist and keyboard player for recording purposes. At this stage the band was billing themselves as Celedhring on 'dragonstrings' (Vahvanen), Zaknafein on '7 tailed wolfwhip & warcries' (Havo), Akhorahil on 'cursed thunderstorms' (Kokkola) and Gorthaur delivering 'warhammer legions'.

BATTLELORE augmented their vocal sound with the addition of Patrick Mennander for 'clean' vocals. Gorthaur would bow out due to increasing commitments with HORNA and Henri Vahvanen took the drum stool for a further promotional recording 'Dark Fantasy' in 2000. This effort would also witness the enrollment of Maria of ELDERTHRONES on keyboards and Kaisa Johki from MY SWEET SORROWS on female vocals. BATTLELORE would then sign with the Austrian Napalm label for their first album 'Where The Shadows Lie'.

Kaisa Johki would guest on the 2003 album 'Lovecraftian Dark' from fellow Finns DAWN OF RELIC. The band formed up part of 'The Magic Of Angels' tour of Germany in May 2003, packaged alongside running mates EDENBRIDGE, TRAIL OF TEARS, SIRENIA and SALTATIO MORTIS.

The group severed ties with vocalist Patrik Mennander in August of 2004, duly drafting EVEMASTER frontman Tomi Mykkänen has temporary substitute. Extensive tour dates saw the band hooking up with ATROCITY, LEAVES' EYES and ELIS for October gigs throughout Europe and Scandiniavia, upfront of a further mainland trek in November allied once again with ATROCITY, LEAVES' EYES and Norwegians SIRENIA. However, bassist Miika Kokkola would not make this gigs due to "personal reasons', being substituted by ELDERTHRONE's Timo Honkanen.

Kokkola officially left the band in February 2005 but both Mykkänen and Honkanen were drafted on a permanent basis. BATTLELORE scheduled March recording sessions at Sound Suite Studio in Marseille with producer Terje Refsnes to cut a third album, Third Age Of The Sun', for Napalm Records. Released in July, digipack versions added a bonus track in 'Dwimmerlaik'.

BATTLELORE entered MusicBros Studio in September to begin recording their fourth album. In November and December 2006 the band partnered with DARZAMAT and DRACONIAN for shows across Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, the UK, Holland and Belgium.

The album 'The Last Alliance' landed on the national Finnish charts at no. 26 in October 2008. The record was crafted at Sound Supreme Studios in Hämeenlinna with producer Janne Saksa and was mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö. KORPIKLAANI, BATTLELORE, KIVIMETSÄN DRUIDI and FALCHION all teamed up for the "Finnish Fire" tour commencing on 14th November in Glauchau, Germany. However, Harri Hyytiäinen (a.k.a. 'Withking' and 'Corpsepenis'), from AVATHAR, temporarily joined the ranks of BATTLELORE in October 2008 for touring purposes, replacing regular frontman Tomi Mykkänen who had opted out for family reasons.

The group featured on the 'Summer Breeze' festival billing in August 2009 held in Dinkelsbühl, Germany.
