Biography
Kuusamo based ZERO NINE issued a prodigious amount of product, initiated by the 1980 single 'Down The Line'. Such was the band's standing than none other than IAN GILLAN acted as producer for the band's second album, 1982's 'Blank Verse'. ZERO NINE hosted two tracks on the January 1984 RCA Records 'Scandinavian Metal Attack' split vinyl album shared with OZ, TRASH, SPITFIRE and BATHORY.
In 1985 the band signed to Virgin Records for the 'White Lines' album. A UK release would be licensed through the Heavy Metal label. Follow up 'Intrigue', on the Megafon imprint, sold strongly and is regarded by many fans as the band's creative peak. 1988's 'Voodoo You' saw ZERO NINE's fanbase extending into Russia.
The 1987 single 'Shadow On The Wall', a MIKE OLDFIELD cover version, would be shared as a split promotional single with BOYCOTT. Although ZERO NINE was of major status, international appreciation eluded them and they called it a day, retiring to Oulu where fans could catch the band jamming in their own bar.
ZERO NINE vocalist KEPA SALMIRINNE cut a self titled 1993 solo album. A reformed ZERO NINE switched to the Poko label in 1996 for the 'Freakshow' opus.
