A Dark, Folk Metal concept fronted by ex-DARKWOODS MY BETROTHED man Teemu Kautonen. NATTVINDENS GRÅT keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen and bassist Sami Vänskä also shared their creative energies with NIGHTWISH, an outfit that released the 'Angels Fall First' album on Spinefarm Records in 1998 and would subsequently go on to achieve huge international success.

NATTVINDENS GRÅT got a deal after only one demo, 'Dar Svanar Flyger', and since offered Death Metal reliant on strong melodies and, sometimes, unusual instrumentation. 1995's 'A Bard's Tale' features the additional talents of female vocalist Suvi and male vocalist Tapio Wilska, the latter previously a member of LYIJYKOMPPANIA. The band's logo, incidentally, was drawn by Tom of HELMEIM fame. In March 1996 Kautonen, billed as 'Hexenmeister', initiated a side act dubbed WIZZARD for the demo 'I Am King'. NATTVINDENS GRÅT drummer Tero Leinonen teamed up with WIZZARD in 1997 with another NATTVINDENS GRÅT band member, guitarist Juuso Jalasmäki, joining the WIZZARD ranks the following year. Wilska would leave in 1998 to found SETHIAN.

NATTVINDENS GRÅT would relocate to Germany, taking onboard the new truncated band title of NATTVIND. As NATTVIND the band undertook a quite radical turn in direction, adopting a classic Hard Rock approach on the 'Subuniverses' album.
