Biography

ATAKHAMA is a Jyväskylä based band with its roots in FUNERIS NOCTURNUM, founded during the Autumn of 1998. Product from this antecedent outfit included the 'Slay And Burn' demo and albums 'Pure Satanic Blasphemy' and 'From The Aspect Of Darkly Illuminated'. For the latter 2001 album FUNERIS NOCTURNUM acquired guitarist Sinéquamnon (a.k.a. J.V. Hintikka) of MACHINE MEN. Besides their duties with FUNERIS NOCTURNUM bassist Horgath (Matti Honkonen) was active with GOLD DUST and SWALLOW THE SUN whilst guitarist Impresouvenair Mort-Nèrgal (Simo Rahikainen) was also involved with Thrash Metal band WHEREVICTIMSLIE. The band would switch drummers in early 2002, debuting their new man T.M.O.N. (Timo Häkkinen) of WHEREVICTIMSLIE.

FUNERIS NOCTURNUM would lend support to ZYKLON's Finnish gigs in January 2004, debuting a new line-up now fronted by Jimmy Salmi. The band would complete work on their fourth album 'Existence Indifferent' in November.

The group underwent some turbulent times during early mid 2004 as guitarists Simo Rahikainen and J.V. Hintikka, bassist Matti Honkonen and drummer Timo Häkkinen broke away to forge an all new unit billed ATAKHAMA with singer Jimmy Salmi. The new venture once again to Woodcut Records, recording their debut album 'Existence Indifferent' during September with producer Sami Kokko. 'Existence Indifferent' emerged in April 2005. Timo Häkkinen also made time to join SOTAJUMALA.

ATAKHAMA announced Russian dates for April and May 2006, after which guitarist J.V. Hintikka took his leave.
