Biography

SOTAJUMALA ("Wargod"), despite hailing from Jyväskylä, cite the Florida Death Metal tradition as a direct inspiration. The band, founded in 1998 by bassist T. Otsala and guitarist K. Orbinski, took on a stable form during 2000 with the introduction of guitarists Jyrki Häkkinen and P. Lapio, drummer Arttu Romo, of AGON ORIGIN and IKUINEN KAAMOS, and singer H. Lastu. Häkkinen's credits spanned such outfits as WIZZARD, AGON ORIGIN, GAURITHOTH, NEKROKRIST SS, NJARFRAR and WÅRPATH. This line-up entered the Sundicoop Studios in Savonlinna with producer Tuomo Valtonen to cut their first, eponymous demo in September of 2001. However, upon completion of these sessions Lapio departed.

H. Lastu opted out in the Summer of 2002, paving the way for the strangely monikered '105' to take over for the EP 'Panssarikolonna', recorded at Watercastle Studio, Jyväskylä. Woodcut Records issued the full length 'Death Metal Finland' album in 2004. Live work to promote this opus would see Järvinen of ALGHAZANTH, UNVEILED and OBSCURANT manning the drums. Subsequently M. Luukkainen of UNVEILED, HORNA, EMPYREAN BANE, OBSCURANT, DEATHBOUND and ALGHAZANTH repute took over the lead vocal position whilst drums were delegated to Timo Häkkinen from WHEREVICTIMSLIE, ATAKHAMA and FUNERIS NOCTURNUM.

The band shared a split release with TORTURE KILLER through Woodcut Records during September 2005, this outing reaching no. 10 in the national Finnish charts.
