Jyväskylä Black Metal act featuring the OBSCURANT duo of keyboard player A. Simonen and drummer Järvinen (a.k.a. 'Gorath Moonthrone). ALGHAZANTH featured bassist Dreminoc on their 1996 demo 'Behind The Frozen Forest'. With his departure, frontman Thasmorg (a.k.a. Mika Kaakkolahti) of OBSCURANT, took over the role for the May 1997 session 'Dim Is The Moon's Light'. During October 1998 the band contributed a track to the split EP 'The Blackened Rainbow', an alliance with RAVENDUSK, ENOCHIAN CRESCENT and THROES OF DAWN for Woodcut Records. ALGHAZANTH's debut full-length came with the 1999 'Thy Aeons Envenomed Sanity' album. Woodcut Records put out the 'Subliminal Antenora' album in January 2001.

ALGHAZANTH would then pull in former FUNERIS NOCTURNUM bassist Grimort (Riku Vallisto). However, during November 2001 guitarist Veilroth decamped to BEHEXEN and CALVARIUM necessitating Grimort switching to guitar and the induction of yet another bassist L.L. Infection (a.k.a. Luukkainen) of OBSCURANT, UNVEILED, SOTAJUMALA and TROLLHEIM'S GROTT. The December 2001 album 'Osiris - Typhon Unmasked' featured a hidden track in a cover version of MEGADETH's 'Symphony Of Destruction'. Japanese variants on the Soundholic label added a rendition of W.A.S.P.'s 'L.O.V.E. Machine'.

Infection also sessioned vocals on EMPYREAN BANE's 2004 demo 'Divine Puppetry'. Nebiros exited in July 2004. Woodcut Records issued 'The Polarity Axiom' album in September. SWALLOW THE SUN frontman Mikko Kotamäki, as 'Goat Tormentor', joined ALGHAZANTH as their new vocalist in January 2006.

In late 2007 singer Mikko Kotamäki forged side venture BARREN EARTH, a Progressive Folk Metal project with distinct 70s influences featuring members of KREATOR, guitar player Sami Yli-Sirniö, MOONSORROW members guitarist Janne Perttilä and drummer Marko Tarvonen, and MANNHAI, bassist Olli-Pekka Laine.

Woodcut Records issued the ALGHAZANTH album 'Wreath Of Thevetat' in February 2008, preceded by a download single 'The Phosphorescent'.
