INSOMNIUM

Biography

Joensuu based dark Metal band. Vocalist / bassist Niilo Sevanen and drummer Tapani Pesonen started their musical career with a covers band entitled PAISE ('Abcess' in Finnish). Later acts included Grunge orientated outfits DISHARMONY and STONECROW. During 1996 guitarists Markus Hirvonen and Ville Friman joined Sevanen and Pesonen, opting to pursue a full on Metal direction as INSOMNIUM was borne. In 1998 Pesonen was forced out in order to conduct his national military service. INSOMNIUM regrouped switching the dextrous Hirvonen over to drums and pulling in second guitarist Timo Partanen.

INSOMNIUM marked their entrance upon the Metal scene with a 2000 demo 'Underneath The Moonlit Waves'. The band added WATCH ME FALL guitarist Ville Vänni in March of 2001. Signing to the British Candlelight label INSOMNIUM debuted in 2002 with 'In The Halls Of Awaiting'. The band released their second album, 'Since The Day It All Came Down' recorded at Media Works Studios, during May 2004.

During 2004 Ville Vänni forged Death-Thrashers HATEFORM in union with singer Petri "Njysvär" Nyström and the ex-MORBID DREAM triumvirate of of guitarist Tomy "Speedy" Laisto, bassist Joni "Jontte" Suodenjärvi and drummer Tuomas “Reisari” Vähämaa.

The album 'Above The Weeping World' was released through Candlelight Records during October 2006, hitting number 9 on the Finnish charts. Preceding this release the group toured the UK backing ENSLAVED, ZYKLON and 1349.
