THE BLACK LEAGUE

Biography

Helsinki Rock act founded by ex-SENTENCED and IMPALED NAZARENE bassist / singer Taneli Jarva and drummer Sir Luttinen of IMPALED NAZARENE, LEGENDA and BEHERIT. THE BLACK LEAGUE was completed by MYTHOS, IMPALED NAZARENE and LEGENDA bassist Florida and guitarists Alexi Ranta and Maike Valanne. The latter has credits with infamous Finnish Punk bands TERVEET KADET and FAFF BEY.

Ranta also busied himself with IGNIS FATUUS whilst Florida is a members of SHADOWS OVER SHADOWLAND. Luttinen joined TERVEET KADET during November 2001. With Florida on temporary leave Lene from TERVEET KÄDET took over on bass as an interim substitute. Alexi Ranta would guest on the 2003 album 'Lovecraftian Dark' from fellow Finns DAWN OF RELIC.

Yet another adjunct outfit with strong connections came with the unveiling of CHAOSBREED in early 2003. Something of a Finnish Metal 'Supergroup' the band comprised lead vocalist Taneli Jarva, guitarists Esa Holopainen of AMORPHIS and Marko Tarvonen of MOONSORROW, bass player Oppu Laine of AMORPHIS and MANNHAI repute with former GANDALF drummer Nalle Ȫsterman. A new studio album from THE BLACK LEAGUE entitled 'Man's Ruin Revisited', recorded at Seawolf Studios in Suomenlinna, would be preceded with a December single 'Cold Women & Hot Beer', backed with a cover of 'Hot Wheels' originally by the Finnish veteran Rock band HURRIGANES.

For live work in August of 2004 THE BLACK LEAGUE once again pulled in TERVEET KÄDET bass player Lene as temporary fill in for Florida, absent with priorities in Kosovo.

Both drummer Kimmo Luttinen and bassist Mikko Laurila left THE BLACK LEAGUE in March of 2005, the group subsequently re-structuring by drafting guitarist Heavy Hiltunen, bassist I.T. and drummer Rale. This unit entered Seawolf Studios in Suomenlinna once again to craft a new album given a working title of 'A Place Called Bad'.

THE BLACK LEAGUE would joined by GODSPLAGUE guitarist Euge Valovirta for their 21st January concert at Club Teatria in Oulu due to Kimmi Hiltunen's prior commitments to LULLABY. Playground Music released 'A Place Called Bad' in Scandinavia on 19th April.
