Biography

NERLICH is an "old school" Death Metal band created in Helsinki as DEVASTATION MACHINE in 2002. Successive line-up changes, which included the entry and exit of drummers Viktor, Jonttu and Niko as well as guitarist Mikko Agnus, led up to the Autumn of 2003 and the name switch to NERLICH. The group's first demos were cut in February 2004 by Miikka Merikallio on vocals and bass, guitarist Jarno Nurmi and the SARNATH and PHLEGETHON credited drummer Lasse Pyykkö. Subsequently, Pyykkö exited, eventually reforging PHLEGETHON and founding COFFINS OF CYST, and Merikallio switched from bass to guitar as an early member, Pekka Johansson, rejoined on bass. Teemu Mutka, of ACABÓ EL SILENCIO, DEEP RED, AZAGHAL, CARCASE INC. and CADAVERIC INCUBATOR, joined as the band's drummer for a second set of recordings 'Insane Creations - Inorganic Echoes' in October of 2004. SLUGATHOR's Tommi Grönqvist would donate the cover art.

NERLICH's debut live performance came in November, sharing a billing alongside WITHERIA. During 2005 Jarno Nurmi briefly joined the ranks of SLUGATHOR. His replacement would be Otso Kirvelä for a short period. Hanna Kauppinen of GIRL GERMS took over the bass position. In April that same year the Nihilistic Holocaust label put NERLICH tracks alongside DECOHERENCE and GORGASM for a split album billed 'Embalmed Madness'.

In May 2006 Conqueror The Thorns Records compiled archive demo tracks for the exhaustively titled 'Substantial Alteration Of The Cadaver As The

Insects Breed In It's Entrails - The Stench Is Stimulating Senses (Causing Orgasm)'. Recording a new album, 'Defabricated Process', for late 2006 release, NERLICH signed to Old School Metal Records.
