Biography

CHAOSBREED, unveiled in early 2003, is a something of a Helsinki Metal 'Supergroup'. The band comprised lead vocalist Taneli Jarva of SENTENCED and THE BLACK LEAGUE, guitarists Esa Holopainen of AMORPHIS and Marko Tarvonen of MOONSORROW, bass player Oppu Laine of AMORPHIS and MANNHAI repute with former GANDALF drummer Nalle Österman. The band would debut with the demo 'Unleashed Carnage' with a commercial inauguration courtesy of a split 7" single shared with RYTMIHÄIRIÖ issued through Rising Realm Records. This single contained rough mixes of 'Sink In Hell', 'Slutrush' and the CARNAGE cover version 'The Day Man Lost'. The group's demo would subsequently see CD format release in North America and Europe through Crash Music Inc. in January 2004. A full blown album, entitled 'Brutal', would be cut at at CCPC Studios with producers Santeri Kallio and Niclas Etelävuori.

A further split single in union with RYTMIHÄIRIÖ would be cut in March of 2004, this outing comprising two new tracks and a cover of MASTER's 'Funeral Bitch'. Plans would also be underway for another split 7" in alliance with TO SEPARATE THE FLESH FROM THE BONES. With Oppu Laine committed to a MANNHAI gig the same day as CHAOSBREED's performance at the Helsinki 'Tuska' festival the band pulled in Janne Perttilä of RYTMIHÄIRIÖ as substitute. A Jyväskylä gig in August was cancelled when Taneli Jarva injured his back during a show in Oulu with THE BLACK LEAGUE.

CHAOSBREED lent support to GRAVE's March 2004 Finnish dates and their return run in May upfront of a European leg. However, the band revealed it had parted ways with both vocalist Taneli Jarva and guitarist Esa Holopainen. CHAOSBREED then retracted earlier statements, revealing that Jarva and Holopainen would be participating in gigs throughout May with GRAVE. Within days the confusion grew as CHAOSBREED then put out a press release pulling out of the GRAVE shows.

An interesting diversion came in on 4th August when CHAOSBREED members Oppu Laine and Nalle Österman put in a one off tribute show to THE DOORS with a band entitled THE BLUE HORSE. With Österman switching his traditional role as drummer over to lead singer for the evening, THE BLUE HORSE also comprised lead guitarist Markku "Crazy" Heiskanen of HAVANA BLACK, ex-AMORPHIS and MANNHAI keyboard player Kasper Martenson and MANNHAI drummer Mikko "Junior" Pietinen.
