Biography

HATEFRAME is an old school Thrash Metal outfit forged in 2004 by MALPRACTICE, ex-TO/DIE/FOR guitarist Joonas "Jope" Koto and the TO/DIE/FOR, BARATHRUM and SINERGY credited drummer Tonmi Lillman. Bassist Marko Kangaskolkka also holds a tradition with TO/DIE/FOR.

The group was borne out of an acrimonious split in the TO/DIE/FOR ranks during 2003. With the situation proving unsolvable, Koto and Lillman forged the SLAYER tribute band DEAD/SKIN/MASK in order to keep active. Gradually this act, with Ilkka Valkonen on vocals and Eza Virén on guitar, evolved into HATEFRAME. That December the group cut the demo tracks 'Torment The Masses', 'Warfare' and 'The Perfect Hate' but were then dealt a blow as Valkonen exited. Lillman also quit, even going so far as to sell his drum kit.

The band soldiered on, pulling in Sami Kujala as a new vocalist and Eza's brother Lauri Virén on drums. However, in April of 2004 Lillman made a return. In this incarnation HATEFRAME conducted just one gig, on July 23rd at the 'Jörisrock' festival in Suonenjoki, after which Kujala decamped and Valkonen duly returned to his post. By November the group had completed work on a debut album entitled 'Sign Of Demise'.

Besides his duties with HATEFRAME Lillman also busied himself with KYLÄHULLUT with his ex-SINERGY comrade Alex Laiho. Kote would be active with CRACK WHORES, TUMULT BREED and NEW DAWN FOUNDATION. HATEFRAME signed to Rising Realm Records in January 2005.

In January of 2006 Tonmi Lillman joined the ranks of VANGUARD.
