Biography

A classy Espoo based Death Metal act, imbued with melody and a sense of adventurism. Following demos 'Equilibrium' in 1996 and the 1997 EP 'Fata Morgana' THRONE OF CHAOS, featuring THY SERPENT drummer Teemu 'Snake' Laitinen, weighed in with the 2000 'Menace And Prayer' album for the Spinefarm subsidiary Spikefarm label. Alongside Laitenen the album saw a recording line-up of guitarists Joiku Harmaja and Taneli Kiljunen - the latter handling lead vocals, bassist Rasmus Nora and keyboard player Carl Sjöblom. Although impressive the album did not exactly stand out from the standard Scandinavian fare, something which the broader musical span of follow up 'Pervertigo', recorded at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, certainly did. Niklas Isfeldt of DREAM EVIL aided on guest vocals alongside second vocalist Pasi Nykänen, crafting an album whose aggression was tempered by bursts of psychedelia.

THRONE OF CHAOS evolved into TOC for the October 2003 album 'Loss Angeles'. Issued by Spinefarm Records the album included a cover version of DEEP PURPLE's seminal 'Smoke On The Water'. Limited edition variants also hosted a rendition of JUDAS PRIEST's 'Night Crawler'.

The change in band title also maked a clear switch in style. Early works had been firmly placed in the Death Metal arena but a gradual leaning towards more adventurous realms led to TOC's Progressive Rock output. At this same juncture frontman Taneli Kiljunen backed away from the microphone, having damaged his throat. New lead singer Tuomas Nieminen held credits with BRIDE ADORNED and ADAMANTRA. 'Loss Angeles' saw release across Europe through Universal Music, in Japan via Avalon Marquee and was issued in North America by the Inside Out Music imprint.

Drummer Teemu Laitinen joined DIVERCIA for their 2004 album 'Cycle Of Zero'. Nieminen contributed as guest vocalist on CROWPATH's 'Red On Chrome' album. TOC folded in August 2005.
