Biography
Sonderborg Satanic Metallers DENIAL OF GOD, featuring ex-APOLLYON guitarist Azter, were created in 1991. The inaugural line-up found Azter joined by vocalist Ustumallagam and drummer Uksul. Oddly, DENIAL OF GOD garnered publicity by throwing maggots into their audience. The group released two demos, 'Oscularium Infame' in June 1992, limited to 400 copies, for which they were joined by bass player Kulmar, and 'The Dawn Of Aemizaez' in October 1993. Antecedent to this second tape Kulmar had handed over bass to Nomos but he too had made an exit prior to recording leaving DENIAL OF GOD as a trio once more. A side project saw Ustumallagam conjouring up GIGIM XUL in 1993, a ritualistic Dark Ambient concern that issued a June 1993 demo 'Mists'.
The group, having enrolled Fargel (a.k.a. Stephan Larsen) on bass, followed up the demos with the debut May 1995 EP 'The Statues Are Watching' for the Italian Maggots label. The 2001 EP 'Robbing The Grave Of The Priest' incorporated a cover version of MAYHEM's 'Funeral Fog'.
The mini-album 'The Ghouls Of D.O.G.' was delivered in the summer of 1996 by the British Dark Trinity Productions concern. DENIAL OF GOD managed a brief spate of dates across the Low Countries in order to promote this offering but upon completion Fargel bowed out, going on to DELIRIUM TREMENS and subsequently JESTER'S CROWN. The Danish Horror Records imprint, actually Azter's personal label, subsequently re-issued it in a 333 hand numbered pressing vinyl format and Oupiric Productions in Russia serviced that territory with a licensed cassette version adding four extra tracks from the previous EP releases.
1997 demo recordings would make up the March 1999 'The Curse Of The Witch' EP released by Sombre, once more limited to 333 copies. That year Uksul relinquished the drum stool and DENIAL OF GOD rebuilt their rhythm section with female bassist Isaz and drummer Sorgh. Splitting from Dark Trinity a new deal was struck with Hammerheart for the 1998 10" EP 'Klabautermanden'. Further line-up changes witnessed Rasmus Salskov taking over on drums.
DENIAL OF GOD's 2000 marble vinyl single 'The Crypt Has Eyes', released by the Czech View Beyond label, included a cover rendition of 'Terror' originally by DEATH S.S.
A strictly limited edition picture disc variant of the 'The Crypt Has Eyes' EP, restricted to just 110 copies on The Sky Is Red label, surfaced in 2002. The same label also put out the 'Robbing The Grave Of The Priest' EP in picture disc format too with the slightly more generous pressing run of 333. An album combining the demo tapes 'Oscularium Infame' and The Dawn Of Aemizaez' billed as 'The Dawn Of Aemizaez: Demos 1992-1993' was set for release by the Swedish Divine Circle label later that same year. DENIAL OF GOD also got to grips with recording a new studio album 'The Horrors Of Satan'. Meantime, Ustumallagam contributed session backing vocals to IMPIETY's 'Kaos Kommand 666' album.
In 2004 DENIAL OF GOD donated their version of 'Hellion' to the W.A.S.P. tribute album 'Shock Rock Hellions - A Tribute To W.A.S.P.' issued through Denmark's Valhalla Records. After utilising session drummer R. Salskov of KOLDBORN that October the band worked with drummer Atziluth (a.k.a. Michael Huhle), a veteran of RENEGADETH, VICTIMIZER, BLACKHORNED, RAVISHING and GRIMNISMAL. Azter would also find time to join the ranks of VICTIMIZER.
Isaz exited in February 2005, leaving DENIAL OF GOD just a duo of Ustumallagam and Azter. In December the pair announced the incorporation of new members bassist The Unknown and drummer Galheim for recording of a new album. 'The Horrors Of Satan' was released on Halloween 2006, "as a tribute to darkness and the beings that dwell in it", by Painkiller Records. Vinyl editions presented collectors with a standard black vinyl of 400 copies, yellow/black splatter vinyl, 100 copies, and as a picture disc of 500 copies.
