Biography

Ringsted Death Metal act founded by Michael Poulsen in 1991, DOMINUS released a self-titled demo followed up by the 'Ambrosius Locus' session of 1992 and a further tape 'Astaroth' in early 1993. The band's first commercially available product came in the form of a track donated to the second in the series of 'Fuck You, We're From Denmark' compilation albums on Progress Records. Poulsen, a lecturer in "Positive Nordic Satanism", engaged himself in TV discussions concerning his Black Metal stance with a priest on Scandinavian TV.

DOMINUS signed to Greek label Molon Lave releasing a 7" single, 'Sidereal Path Of Colours'. The band's first album, March 1995's 'View To The Dim', saw the band returning to Progress Records. At live shows Poulsen addresses his audience in native Norwegian tongue. Following the debut album DOMINUS underwent a line-up shift, adding ex ILLDISPOSED drummer Lars Hald and bassist Anders Nielsen. 'The First 9' followed in September 1996.

The group then took on an adventurous change in direction, as November 1997's 'Vol. Beat' found DOMINUS adopting a radical musical shift towards 50's Rock n' Roll inspired beat Metal. Quite aptly, the album was recorded at Jailhouse studios by Tommy Hansen.

DOMINUS, complete with a fresh rhythm section of bassist Frans Hellbus and erstwhile FURIOUS TRAUMA drummer Brian Andersen, returned to an earthier sound for the fourth record 'Godfallos' issued in October 2000. However, despite praiseworthy reviews the band announced it was to fold shortly after. Michael Poulsen duly forged a fresh act entitled VOLBEAT. Joining him would be a cast comprising ex-POST and COMMON DELUTION guitarist Teddy Vang, erstwhile PINK APPLE, DOMINUS and NO SOLUTION bassist Anders Kjølholm with Jon Larsen, credited with membership of MORATORIUM and THE SCENT, on the drums. VOLBEAT's inaugural product would be a six song demo 'Beat The Meat'. The band signed to New Aeon Media, a subsidiary of Holland's Karmageddon Media, for a debut 2004 album.
