A Thrash band dating back to 1986 that went under their original title of BLACK CREED, the group's first demo tape was 'Genetic Confusion' in 1988 followed by 'Alterations' the following year. After gigs with EDGE OF SANITY and ENTOMBED the band signed to Swedish label Black Mark. During 1990 the band toured both Denmark and Finland allied with Speed Metal act PRESTIGE.

The band's debut album, 1992's 'Excursion Demise' featuring former V-AXE, GRAFF SPEE and EXTREME FEEDBACK guitarist Jesper Jensen, sold around 10'000 copies in Europe. That same year the band appeared at the prestigious Roskilde festival, although oddly were lumped in on the non Metal day to share a stage uncomfortably with CROWDED HOUSE, TEXAS, THE POGUES and JAMES. The success of 'Excursion's Demise' prompted INVOCATOR to record a further album 'Weave The Apocalypse' and they opened for PARADISE LOST in Europe during 1994. The 'Early Years' album comprised of the band's original demo tapes plus covers of ARTILLERY and DARK ANGEL tracks. Jacob Schultz was replaced by guitarist Perle Hansen for the 'Dying To Live' album.

INVOCATOR, citing a line-up comprising of Jacob Hansen, AUTUMN LEAVES guitarist Flemming C. Lund, bass player Carsten N. Mikkelsen and erstwhile WITHERING SURFACE drummer Jakob Gundel, would reform in 2002 immediately setting to work on a new studio album. 'Through The Flesh To The Soul', set to appear in mid 2003 on the Italian Scarlet label, included a cover version of ASSASSIN's 'Abstract War'. The regrouped band marked an appearance at the November 'Aalborg Metal' festival in Denmark for their live debut.

Flemming C. Lund would work up a Thrash side project in early 2004. Dubbed SCAVENGER the band comprised SLUGS, ex-AUTUMN LEAVES man Boris Tandrup on bass and Morten Sørensen from AURORA, WUTHERING HEIGHTS and PYRAMAZE on drums. Meantime INVOCATOR drummer Jakob Gundel acted as sessioneer for US act MORPHEUS' debut album and, joining forces with Anders Høeg and Mikkel Sandager of MERCENARY, forged a Thrash Metal side project. Jacob Hansen would be found engaging in guest duties too, appearing on the 'Warhead' track on HATESPHERE's 2004 album 'Ballet Of The Brute'. Gaining kudos as an in demand producer, Hansen racked up impressive credits on albums by the likes of MERCENARY, COMMUNIC, HATESPHERE, ROB ROCK, VOLBEAT and RAUNCHY.

Bassist Carsten Mikkelsen exited in September. According to an official statement this was "due to lack of interest". That same month Jacob Hansen joined the ranks of BEYOND TWILIGHT. January of 2005 found drummer Jakob Gundel in the studio firing up a new band unit with MUGSHOT vocalist Kim Orneborg and the erstwhile WITHERING SURFACE pairing of guitarist Allan Tvedebrink and bassist Kasper Boye-Larsen dubbed THE DOWNWARD CANDIDATE. This new unit committed to demos in January produced by KONKHRA and FURIOUS TRAUMA guitarist Lars Mayland.

Jacob Hansen became the new singer of ANUBIS GATE in January 2006. Breaking a three year hiatus, INVOCATOR, comprising Jacob Hansen, Flemming C. Lund, Carsten Mikkelsen and Joakob Grundel, announced a return to live action in 2007.
