Biography

Formed by ex-MERCYFUL FATE guitarist Hank Shermann, FATE made a striking comparison to his former outfit's full on Metal approach by adopting a clean cut AOR attitude. The initial line-up of 1985 vintage comprised of Shermann, ex-MAXIM vocalist Jeff Limbo, bassist Pete Steinke (a.k.a. Peter Steiner) and drummer Bob Lance (actually Bjarne T. Holm), although Shermann apparently quit upon the release of second album, 1987's 'A Matter Of Attitude', and was replaced by the enigmatically titled Mysterious Mr. Moth.

The record caught FATE losing direction slightly favouring overblown production courtesy of Svein Dag Hauge in favour of quality songs. The band had augmented their line-up by adding keyboard player Flemming Rothaus. The departed band founder was to later turn up towards the end of 1988 with a new act LAVINA featuring two erstwhile KING DIAMOND members guitarist Michael Denner and bassist Timi G. Hansen together with vocalist Rick Sterrie and drummer Nick James.

Having guested for YNGWIE MALMSTEEN on his 1988 European tour, FATE's ensuing third album 'Cruizin' For A Bruizsn'' appeared in 1989 and was deftly produced by Simon Hanhart and saw FATE back on the right track. Following a lengthy period of inactivity FATE resurfaced in 1991 with new vocalist Per Henrikson (a.k.a. Per Johannsen), previously of ROUGH, LAVINA, EVIL and CRYSTAL KNIGHT, and Swedish guitarist Matthias Eklundh to record the Tommy Newton produced 'Scratch n' Sniff'. THUNDERHEAD's Ted Bullet guested on backing vocals.

The band completed a sold out Scandinavian tour and then toured Europe opening for AXXIS. Eklundh was to split in order to form the enterprising FREAK KITCHEN. By 2003 Per Johannsen was touting a new Power Metal act entitled UREAS, a formation numbering co-lead singer Heidi Johansson, FATE guitarist Søren Hoff, EVIL MASQUERADE, WUTHERING HEIGHTS and MANTICORA bassist Kaspar Gram plus URKRAFT drummer Mikael Skou Jørgensen.

FATE reunited with a July 2004 live performance at the 'Deep Impact Open Air' festival in Munich. The band's live line-up comprised singer Per Johanson, guitarist Søren Hoff, bassist Peter Stienke and temporary drummer Rasmus Duedahl, later replaced by Claus Lindy. Also included would be BEYOND TWILIGHT keyboard player Finn Zierler. Whilst a new album would also be in the works for MTM Music the same labels re-issue division, MTM Classix, put out 'A Matter Of Attitude' adding two previously unreleased tracks 'Hardcore Romance' and 'Memories Of You'.

The 2006 album 'V', recorded with producer Tommy Hansen, featured drummer Mikael Kvist, from Swedish act ELSESPHERE.

FATE announced the addition of Faroe Islands-based singer Dagfinn Joensen to the group's ranks in May 2009.
