DOWNLORD, an Anglo / US / Danish collaboration, was created by singer Dave Ingram, a man who had made a significant mark on the extreme Metal scene fronting West Midlands acts EYEGOUGER, PLAGUE D.H.C., BOLT THROWER and BENEDICTION. In August of 2004 BOLT THROWER announced the departure of Ingram, apparently due to the singer "suffering with health and personal problems". The singer later revealed he had been suffering with mental difficulties, but once recovered, duly founded FULL SCALE HATRED in late 2004, this new band subsequently evolving into DOWNLORD.

American guitarist Donovan Spenceley held prior credits with NEPENTHE, SACRIFICIAL, JADED, EXCESSIVE PAYBACK, SIDE EFFECT and POWER ASSAULT whilst Danish counterpart René Falther has ties to INIQUITY, JADED and EXCESSIVE PAYBACK. Included on bass would be Danish musician Thomas Fagerlind of SWOLLEN, THORIUM, DAEMON and INIQUITY repute. Originally Rasmus Schmidt had manned the drums but he would be superseded in 2005 by ex-INIQUITY, THORIUM and NATIONS OF DEATH man Jesper Frost. However, Frost opted out as the New Year was ushered in. Newly installed on the drums for demo work would be seasoned campaigner Reno Kiilerich of DIMMU BORGIR, OLD MAN'S CHILD, DEW-SCENTED, EXMORTEM, VILE, FROZEN SUN, STRANGLER, KOBEAST, 12 GAUGE, HUMAN ERUPT and PANZERCHRIST repute.

DOWNLORD supported BOLT THROWER on April 2006 concerts in Denmark and Sweden but were still on the outlook for a permanent drummer by late May. The band signed to Open Grave Records in June, issuing previous demos as an EP plus album 'Random Dictionary Of The Damned'. DOWNLORD announced US concerts for 2007, teamed up with NECRODEMON and CLOUDS TURNED BLACK, but these would be cancelled.

The group pulled in drummer Morten Siersbæk, of SPECTRAL MORTUARY and EXMORTEM, during March. US shows for the summer of 2007 were announced alongside GODLESS RISING and NECRODEMON.
