Biography

Founded in Århus during 1994, GROPE, featuring vocalist Per Ebdrup, erstwhile DESEXULT, ATRO CITY, PIXIE KILLERS guitarist Tue Madsen, bass player Jimmy Thørse and PIXIE KILLERS drummer Anders Gyldenøhr, debuted with the delightfully titled 'What Do Faggots Want?' demo. Early in their career the band dubbed themselves as "'Bone Crushing Rip n' Tear Cyber Thrash". GROPE, signing to the Progress label, featured covers of both METALLICA and SLAYER on the 'Metal Militia' and 'Slatanic Slaughter' tribute albums with a Hardcore charged '...And Justice For All' and 'Spill The Blood' respectively. The band was highly active in 1995, gaining media exposure with a promotional video for the track 'Enemy' and touring alongside label mates TREND and KONKHRA.

GROPE first signalled their desire to branch out musically as they adventurously covered BJÖRK's 'Army Of Me' for the January 1996 'Soul Pieces' EP. This would prove a portent of what was to come as GROPE's 1997 album 'Desert Storm' betrayed Grunge leanings. Sadly bassist Jimmy Thorsø would lose his battle against cancer. By the 2000 effort 'Intercooler', which saw the inclusion of new singer Alex Clausen, previously with BUTTFUCK, and bassist Obersten, GROPE had evolved far away from their Death Metal roots into an American influenced Stoner band, utilising John Custer as producer and mixing the record in Raleigh, North Carolina to boot. European touring saw GROPE aligned with WEISSGLUT.

Splitting from Diehard GROPE, enlisting keyboard player Jonez, convened their own label for the September 2002 record 'If You Were My Dog'. By February of 2003 Obersten had left the fold. Nevertheless the band was confirmed as support for YNGWIE MALMSTEEN's Danish gigs that April.
