Biography
Larger than life ex-MADAM X and SKID ROW frontman SEBASTIAN BACH's solo outings. The debut album, 'Bring 'Em Bach Alive' issued in 1999, includes live cuts recorded in Tokyo and new studio material. Although credited to fictitious characters, the album sees contributions from guitarists from FREHLEY'S COMET man RICHIE SCARLET, Jimmy Flemmion of THE FROGS and ACCEPT's WOLF HOFFMAN, bass from Larry Fisher and drums from Anton Fig of FREHLEY'S COMET and WARP DRIVE's Mark 'Bam Bam' McConnell. Although the esteemed Anton Fig would record the studio sessions, McConnell, a one time member of Los Angeles act CARRERA and a former colleague of Bach's in MADAM X, would take on the job for subsequent live work.
Bach contributed his vocals to three tracks on a 2000 Randy Rhoads tribute performing on 'Believer' with Dimebag Darrell from PANTERA, 'I Don't Know' with Hoffman and 'Crazy Train' with ex-OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist JAKE E. LEE. The man would also front up 'Children of the Damned' for an IRON MAIDEN tribute 'Slave To The Power'.
After touring to promote 'Bring 'Em Bach Alive' the singer landed the lead role in a theatre production of 'Jekyll & Hyde'. This role, which would run for over four months, won the singer a prestigious Broadway award for 'Favourite Male Replacement'.
In 2001 Bach issued a compilation of his work on various tribute albums including OZZY OSBOURNE, LED ZEPPELIN, UFO and AC/DC tracks on the album 'Bach 2 Basics'. Also included was a live take of 'This Is The Moment' from the 'Jekyll & Hyde' show. To honour the memory of the victims of the September 11th World Trade Center disaster Bach hooked up with erstwhile ANTHRAX guitarist Paul Crook to record a rendition of 'Amazing Grace'.
The singer made a return to the acting world suitably starring as the Grim Reaper character in the VH1 TV series 'Strange Frequency'. The role required a three hour special effects make over for each filming. Live work in the Spring of 2002 saw Bach employing Paul Crook on guitar and, in place of Richie Scarlet, former MEGADETH and present SAVATAGE guitarist Al Pitrelli. Within days a further supposed revelation saw Pirelli's MEGADETH colleague Dave Ellefson coming onboard to supply bass, although these rumours would prove to be unfounded. Drums for the tour would be provided for by Mark McConnell once again, a busy man also holding down positions with acts such as COMATONES, CRYPTONAUTS, NATIVE SUN and Funksters FUTURE URBAN ZOO. McConnell would also be working up a project band in league with OVERKILL's Dave Linsk entitled SLEDGEHAMMER. Meantime Bach guested on former KISS drummer ANTON FIG's 2002 solo album 'Figments'.
The singer's successful moves into Broadway climaxed in August as Bach was announced as having landed the lead role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's famed 'Jesus Christ Superstar' musical. Bach played the Messiah on a run of nationwide shows commencing in November and initially projected to last until at least August of the following year. During November Bach found time out from the show to rehearse with a new band collective comprising former GUNS N' ROSES personnel guitarist Slash, bassist DUFF McKAGAN and drummer Matt Sorum. This group would eventually, sans Bach, evolve into VELVET REVOLVER. Meantime the singer broke ties with the 'Jesus Christ Superstar' cast mid tour, soon getting back into Rock n' Roll mode.
Bach assembled a brand new touring band in mid 2003 entitled BACH TIGHT FIVE. This unit comprised the Memphis, Tennessee DEAD TIGHT FIVE teaming of guitarist Randall X Rawlings, bass player Cheeze and drummer Mike Dover alongside the DOPESICK and SKINLAB credited guitarist Adam Albright. Shortly after this announcement it was learned that Bach's original drummer, Mark "BamBam" McConnell, was back in the fold but then just days later original SKID ROW drummer Rob Affuso was confirmed for guest spots. The band was soon out on the road, guesting for TWISTED SISTER in October. In March of 2004 guitarist WARREN DE MARTINI of RATT and WHITESNAKE repute enrolled into the ranks of BACH TIGHT 5.
Sebastian Bach featured in a guest cameo on the popular TV series 'The Gilmore Girls', naturally acting the role of a singer for which he gave a rendition of 'Time Bomb' by RANCID. He and his wife would also be back on screen with the VH1 reality TV show 'I Married Sebastian Bach'. The show premiered to massive national audiences being the top rated show on VH1 the day it premiered as well as reaping the honours of the most watched show on the entire network. The singer also found time to step into the studio with noted session drummer Anton Fig to guest on the track 'Know Where You Go', this song also featuring ex-KISS guitarist ACE FREHLEY.
European Summer shows for Bach in June saw the return of guitarist Paul Crook, following his tenures with ANTHRAX and MEAT LOAF. That same month RALPH SANTOLLA, having just exited ICED EARTH, and a scene veteran of EYEWITNESS, MILLENNIUM, CRYPTIC VISION and MONARCH, joined the band, debuting on the live front in September. New man on the drums would be former ICED EARTH and DEMONS & WIZARDS man Mark Prator. A host of local gigs would see SEVERED HAND, the band featuring Bach's son Paris Bierk on drums, as support act.
Bach put on a run of Mexican gigs, including the 7,000 capacity Monterrey El Volcan and Torreon La Fe Music Hal venues. October found Bach returning to his lead role in 'Jekyll & Hyde' for a ten day run at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh, North Carolina. That same month another Bach's cameos in 'The Gilmore Girls' aired, the singer featured in the episode 'Tippecanoe & Taylor Too' as frontman for fictitious band HEP ALIEN.
Bach solidified his live band in early November by announcing that Steve DiGiorgio, a scene veteran of such heavyweight acts as TESTAMENT, SADUS, DEATH and ICED EARTH, had enrolled on bass guitar. His newly assembled band laid down a cover version of LYNYRD SKYNYRD's 'I Ain't The One' at BeatStreet Recording studio in New York City during November for a Sanctuary Records tribute album entitled 'Heavy Helping'. That same month, RALPH SANTOLLA made a public statement revealing that he was suffering from degenerative condition in the bones of his jaw. Costly treatment would include bone grafts and reconstructive surgery and to offset some of the medical bills a benefit concert in Tampa, headlined by SEBASTIAN BACH, would be scheduled for January of 2005. Meantime, Bach's band traversed Europe throughout December of 2004, taking in shows on the mainland, UK and , for the first time, Turkey. Upon hearing of the onstage murder of his friend PANTERA / DAMAGEPLAN guitarist Darrell 'Dimebag' Abbott, the band introduced PANTERA's 'Walk' into their set list in tribute.
As 2005 opened it seemed Bach's career was accelerating into a new, higher gear. The singer would commit lead vocals to a version of 'I Don't Live Today' included on the MICHAEL SCHENKER 'Heavy Hitters' covers album, track vocals for Progressive Rock outfit FRAMESHIFT album 'An Absence Of Empathy' throughout January before commencing work on a new solo record. Bach also vocalised on the tracks 'Lakeside Park' and 'Tom Sawyer' for the Magna Carta 2005 RUSH tribute album 'Subdivisions'. That same month he would be announced as the headline artist for the UK open air 'Bloodstock' festival. In March Bach's band was joined by the HALFORD, TESTAMENT and PAINMUSEUM credited guitarist "Metal" Mike Chlasciak.
May found Santolla joining arch Black / Death Metal act DEICIDE for US touring. With Santolla thus out of contention for festival gigs, Bach drafted stand in Johnny 'Chromatic' Lenaerts of STARE to cover. Newly enrolled on drums in May would be Bobby Jarzombek of SPASTIC INK, HALFORD, DEMONS & WIZARDS, BEYOND FEAR and ICED EARTH repute.
Bach made his band's appearance at the June 'Sweden Rock' event particularly noteworthy by inviting Swedish Pop singer SOFIA onstage to duet SKID ROW's 'Wasted Life'. The young diva, no. 1 status on the charts in her homeland, had recently recorded the track for her debut album. Another album featuring Bach in 2005 would be 'Soundtrack Of A Soul' by Christian Rock conglomerate LIBERTY N' JUSTICE, Sebastian donating vocals to the track 'Another Nail'.
Bach's band performance at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, New York on 26th November notably saw ACCEPT guitar WOLF HOFFMAN taking on guitar duties for the evening. Naturally a version of ACCEPT's 'Balls To The Wall' was included. Bach announced he would record a new solo album in January 2006, these sessions including Hoffman once again.
Sebastian took a break from the band to film a VH1 television series entitled 'Supergroup', a reality show also starring TED NUGENT, Scott Ian of ANTHRAX on guitar, Evan Seinfeld of BIOHAZARD on bass and Jason Bonham of BONHAM, UFO and FOREIGNER on drums. Throughout the Summer months Bach's band, now having introduced bassist Rob De Luca, having experience with SPREAD EAGLE, the JOAN JETT band and GEORGE LYNCH's band, on bass, scored a major coup by gaining the direct support to GUNS N' ROSES European shows. De Luca only put in three shows before Steve DiGiorgio made a return.
ALICE IN CHAINS invited Bach onstage to sing 'Man In The Box' at the Osaka 'Udo Music' festival in August. Later that same month the singer signed himself over to Rick Sales of Sanctuary Artist Management. Bach announced his first ever show in China for September 2nd, at the Beijing Chaoyang Park, followed by Australian shows. The band then scored the US tour support for GUNS N' ROSES running through October and November. Mike Chlasciak pulled together PAINMUSEUM colleague drummer Bobby Jarzombek and SPREAD EAGLE's Rob DeLuca on bass for an instrumental set as opener at two Bach solo concerts, held November 7th at the Webster Theatre in Harford, Connecticut and the 12th at Crocodile Rock, Allentown, Pennsylvania.
SEBASTIAN BACH scheduled Japanese dates for June 2007. The band headlined the Evolution Festival in Tuscany, Italy in July prior to an appearance at the Kvinesdal festival in Norway.
Bach's 2008 album 'Angel Down' was produced by Roy Z and recorded at Sound City Studios and Under City Studios in Los Angeles, California. Joining Bach in the studio were guitarists Mike Chlasciak and Johnny Chromatic, Bobby Jarzombek on drums plus Steve DiGiorgio on bass. GUNS N' ROSES' Axl Rose made a special guest appearance, contributing vocals on three of the album's songs, '(Love Is A) Bitchslap', a cover of AEROSMITH's 'Back In The Saddle' and 'Stuck Inside'.
Touring throughout July found Bach's band opening for POISON. 'Angel Down' was made available as a limited-edition CD/DVD package, featuring 'Roadrage', a film by Sebastian Bach, as an FYE exclusive at all FYE stores nationwide and also at the FYE booth on the POISON tour.
On 21st July 2009 Bach revealed via an online posting that he was seeking a new guitarist and bass player. Before the close of the month it was learned Bach was composing with former MARILYN MANSON and TWO guitarist John 5.
