Biography

Montréal Deathcore band created in January 2002. DESPISED ICON includes HEAVEN'S CRY guitarist Éric Jarrin along with DYING DAYS and NEURAXIS drummer Alexandre Erian. The formation was rounded out by singers Marie-Hélène Landry and Steve Marois, second guitarist Yannick St-Amand and bass player Sebastien Piché.

The debut album 'Consumed By Your Poison' was released in October 2002 on Galy Records. Membership shuffles then ensued, the group shifting shape to comprise vocalists Steve Marois and Alexandre Erian, guitarists Yannick St-Amand and Eric Jarrin, bassist Sebastien Piché, and drummer Alexandre Pelletier.

DESPISED ICON signed to Century Media Records in January 2005. The band's second album, 'The Healing Process', produced by guitarist Yannick St-Amand, was set for April release. That same month a rash of Canadian gigs had the band packaged with ION DISSONANCE and PREMONITIONS OF WAR.

The group announced April 2006 US tour dates combined with MORBID ANGEL, Poles BEHEMOTH and Brazilians KRISIUN. The band would hit the US touring circuit in September forming up a strong billing alongside HATEBREED, EXODUS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, NAPALM DEATH and FIRST BLOOD. Guitarist Yannick St. Amand opted out in December but stayed associated with the band, producing their next album. The group then pulled in the GORATORY and ex-BURN IN SILENCE credited Alan Glassman as new guitar player.

The group scheduled a round of British dates in March 2007, packaged with UNEARTH, JOB FOR A COWBOY and DAATH. On 18th June 2008 DESPISED ICON announced that the original bassist Sebastien Piché has left the band, due to him securing a full-time employment and being a new father. Max Lavelle, from GORATORY, was a replacement for live shows, subsequently permanently filled the spot as bassist. That December guitarist Alan Glassman quit in order to join JOB FOR A COWBOY.

DESPISED ICON released their first DVD, 'Montreal Assault Live', on 27th January 2009 via Century Media. The disc featured a multi- camera shoot from the band's sold-out hometown show, alongside an hour-long documentary and all of the band's promotional video clips. Fresh album tracks were then recorded, being mixed Zeuss in Massachusetts with mastering by Alan Douches.
