Biography

Woodstock, Ontario Hard Rock outfit WARPIG was founded in 1968 by by vocalist / guitarist Rick Donmoyer, keyboard player / vocalist Dana Snitch, bassist Terry Brett and drummer Terry Hook. Band members had evolved through THE KINGBEES, THE WOT and MASS DESTRUCTION prior to adopting the title WARPIG. In 1969 the group signed to independent label Fonthill Records and a debut album, engineered by Ken Fresian, was recorded at Sound Canada Recording Studios in Toronto during late 1970. Successive gigging found WARPIG sharing stages with MAHOGANY RUSH, WISHBONE ASH, JOE WALSH, QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE, MANFRED MANN and SAVOY BROWN.

In 1973 the album was re-released by major label London Records. This version featured different cover art and two completely re-recorded tracks cut with producer Terry Brown. A single, 'Rock Star', made it into the national Canadian charts. London requested a second album and WARPIG set to work later that same year with the DEEP PURPLE credited Tom Brennand as engineer. However, mid-session Terry Hook decamped. In 1974 Dana Snitch also exited, leading to the eventual split of the band. Rick Donmoyer joined ASH MOUNTAIN.

With the album commanding hefty prices on the bootleg market, Relapse Records re-issued 'Warpig' in September 2006.
