Biography
Canadian born singer / songwriter Lisa Dal Bello has vastly influenced the Rock scene with her soaring angst ridden vocal and supreme mastery of the skills of songwriting. She first came to attention performing radio jingles as a teenager before a short stint with the band LIBERATION. She was spotted by ex-JAMES GANG frontman Roy Kenner who persuaded her to adopt a solo career and was duly signed to MCA Records when just seventeen years old.
The TOTO trio of guitarist STEVE LUKATHER, bassist Mike Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro contribute to both 1977's opening gambit 'Lisa Dal Bello' and 1978's 'Pretty Girls'. The latter also sees the addition of guitarist Richie Zito and TOTO vocalist BOBBY KIMBALL.
'Drastic Measures', released in 1981, found DAL BELLO working with BRYAN ADAMS on the songwriting front. Musicians included ex-ATOMIC ROOSTER and NOVA drummer Rick Parnell and BRAND X guitarist John Goodsall. Unfortunately, record company politics destroyed the album's commercial chances in America but in Europe Germany was quick to notice her individuality and DAL BELLO toured their as support to UDO LINDENBERG.
DAL BELLO's 'Whomanfoursays', featuring MOTT THE HOOPLE guitarist MICK RONSON as producer, bought the singer to international prominence, albeit two years later and via a different artist. Seattle Metal act and Capitol label mates QUEENSRYCHE recorded their version of the lead album track 'Gonna Get Close To You' on their 1986 'Rage For Order' album. Many critics commented on the quality of the song and duly sparked a renewed interest in Dalbello.
It was not the only song to be lifted for success by another Capitol artist as 'Wait For An Answer' appeared on HEART's multi platinum 'Bad Animals' album. Now much in demand as a songwriter, DAL BELLO worked with GLASS TIGER and ex-DURAN DURAN man ANDY TAYLOR. Her vocals were also much in evidence on FIFTH ANGEL's 1989 'Time Will Tell' album and CHER's 'Love Hurts' record of 1991.
Back on the solo front, 1987's 'She' has PINK FLOYD guitarist DAVE GILMOUR as contributor. The 1987 song 'Black On Black' was reworked with the Wilson sisters of HEART for their 1993 album 'Desire Walks On'. DAL BELLO also co-writing the track 'Anything Is Possible' on the same album.
DAL BELLO performed lead vocals on RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson's VICTOR project. MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee adds his touch to the 1996 'Whore' album. Dal Bello also turned up on ROBIN BECK's 2005 opus 'Do You Miss Me' as guest singer.
