Biography
A highly respected São Paulo Thrash Metal act conceived in 1983 citing an original line-up of vocalist Marcello Pompeu, guitarists Silvio Golfetti and Eduardo Toperman bass player Dick Siebert and drummer Mauricio Brian. Following up on a four track 1984 demo, KORZUS debuted in public with with two tracks on a Baratos Afins 1985 split album 'SP Metal II' shared with PERFORMANCES, ABUTRE and SANTUARIO.
Their opening album, the concert set 'Korzus Ao Vivo', followed in 1986 for the Devilm Discos album. This record included a cover version of SLAYER's 'Evil Has No Boundaries'. Shortly after KORZUS would be joined by a new drummer Jose Mauro for recording of the follow up 'Sonho Maníaco' album in 1987. However, tragedy would strike the same October when Mauro committed suicide. KORZUS regrouped with new drummer Roberto Sileci and guitarist Marcello Nicastro for 1989's 'Pay For Your Lies', singing in English for the first time. This set closed out with a cover version of BLACK SABBATH's 'Under The Sun'.
'Mass Illusion', produced by Roger Moreira, arrived in 1991, again with a cover of BLACK SABBATH's 'Under The Sun', giving the band increased exposure and healthy sales. The reputation of KORZUS was such that Golfetti would be asked to deputize for Andreas Kisser on a SEPULTURA tour of Germany. KORZUS themselves would later tour the European continent.
Another change on the drum stool saw Sileci departing to found MOSH and join RATOS DE PORÃO. KORZUS duly pulled in Ricardo Confessori as replacement. This latest inductee would soon decamp though to join the high profile Progressive Metal act ANGRA. Fernando Schaefer filled the drummer's role but then Nicastro bowed out. New face on second guitar would be Marcelo Nejem.
KORZUS issued the 'KZS - SP' album in 1996 amply displaying no let up in speed or aggression. Yet more changes found both Schaefer and Nejem out of the picture, creating TRETA. Rodrigo took on the drummer's vacancy and in 1998 Heros Trench augmented the guitar sound as KORZUS gained the honours of appearing alongside MEGADETH and SLAYER at the Brazilian 'Monsters Of Rock' festival.
2000 witnessed the departure of Rodrigo and the induction of Kiko of NECROMANCIA on drums. A live album culled from the 'Monsters Of Rock' performance was released which added new studio tracks. With Kiko's commitments to NECROMANCIA Rodrigo rejoined the band.
In 2004 both Marcelo Pompeu and Heros Trench guested on the TRANSFIXION album 'What's Real?'.That same year the studio album 'Ties Of Blood' saw release.
Heros Trench and Marcello Pompeu acted as producers for ANCESTTRAL's debut 2006 album 'The Famous Unknown'.
KORZUS played a 25th anniversary concert on 5th December 2008 at Blackmore Rock Bar in São Paulo.
