André Coelho Matos, born 14th September 1971 in São Paulo, Brazil, is the former frontman and songwriter for the progressive Heavy Metal bands VIPER, ANGRA, taking this band to international recognition with the albums 1993's 'Angels Cry', 1996's 'Holy Land' and 1998's 'Fireworks', and, alongside his erstwhile ANGRA colleagues bassist Luis Mariutti and drummer Ricardo Confessori, SHAAMAN.

Matos has featured as guest artist on a myriad of albums, including HAMLET's 'William Shakespeare's Hamlet', HOLY SAGGA's 'Planetude', KARMA's 'Into The Eyes' and HENCEFORTH's 'I.Q.U.' all in 2001, AVANTASIA's 'Avantasia: (The Metal Opera) Parts I & II' in 2001 and 2002, AVALANCH's 'Los Poetas Han Muerto' and LUCA TURILLI's 'Prophet Of The Last Eclipse' in 2002, DR. SIN's 'Ten Years Live' in 2003, AINA's 'Days Of Rising Doom' and THALION's 'Another Sun' both issued in 2004. However, since October 2006 Matos has been dedicated to a solo career.

The October 2007 debut solo outing, billed as 'Time To Be Free', was issued via Japanese label Avalon Marquee. Produced by Sascha Paeth and Roy Z, musicians featured included guitarists Andre Hernandes and Hugo Mariutti, bassist Luís Mariutti, drummer Rafael Rosa with Fabio Ribeiro on keyboards. Japanese editions added a bonus track in a cover version of JOURNEY's 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)'. That same year Matos also rejoined his VIPER comrades for the album 'All My Life'.

Matos took the album out on the road, his live band featuring the Mariutti brothers, Hernandes, Ribeiro drummer Eloy Casagrande. Headline shows were conducted across Brazil in November 2008 prior to European gigs in January 2009 guesting for EDGUY. A European release for 'Time To Be Free' was negotiated with SPV Steamhammer Records.
