An esteemed veteran act on the South American Death Metal scene. The Satanically inspired SARCÓFAGO, based out of Belo Horizonte, employed Death Metal with distinct Punk leanings allied to blasphemous lyrics. Rather alarmingly guests on the 'Rotting' album included Oswaldo Pussy Ripper and Eugenio Dead Zone. Adverts for the album announced "Formed by Wagner Antichrist who left SEPULTURA because they were too commercial!"

SARCÓFAGO debuted with the 1986 demo 'Satanic Lust' leaving no pretensions as to which musical direction the band was headed. The equally to the point demos 'The Black Vomit' and 'Christ's Death' ensued upfront of the first full-length album 'I.N.R.I.'.

For 1991's 'The Laws Of Scourge' the band comprised of vocalist / guitarist Wagner 'Antichrist' Lamounier, guitarist Fabio Jhosko, bass player Gerald 'Incubus' Minelli and drummer Lucio Olliver. OVERDOSE mainman Claidio David would provide backing vocals. The following year Finnish Black Metal outfot IMPALED NAZARENE cut a cover version of 'The Black Vomit' on their 'Goat Perversion' EP.

SARCÓFAGO were still an active concern in 2000 delivering the uncompromising as ever 'Crust' EP. In 2004 the legacy of the 'I.N.R.I.' debut was strengthened as Nuclear War Now Productions issued a limited edition picture disc vinyl album, this issue adding extra tracks taken from the 'Warfare Noise I' compilation. The first 300 of these pressings came packaged as a "die hard" edition in a different sleeve, including poster, booklet, sticker and patch. That same year the band would have their classic cut 'Satanic Lust' chosen as a pioneering piece of music for a compilation assembled by DARKTHRONE drummer Fenriz, released through Peaceville Records and entitled 'Fenriz Presents The Best Of Old School Black Metal'.

In 2009 Wagner Lamounier dismissed Internet reports suggesting that the group will reunite for select dates in July, August, September and October. The frontman was studying for Bachelor of Science and PhD degrees in economy and explained that apparent tour dates would conflict with the academic year of the institution where he gave lectures.
