Biography
Belo Horizonte's OVERDOSE internationally are known for sharing their 1985 debut album 'Seculo XX' with Brazil's biggest Rock export SEPULTURA's 'Bestial Devastation' sessions. This album witnessed an OVERDOSE line-up of vocalist Bozó (a.k.a. Pedro Alberto Amorim), guitarists Cláudio David and Ricardo Dos Santos Souza, bassist Fernando Pazzini and drummer Helinho 'Helium' Eduardo. Following this outing, which sold in excess of 15'000 copies, OVERDOSE secured a placing on the 'Metal Massacre 9' compilation album.
1987's first full-length album 'Conscience' found the band trimmed down to a quartet with just Cláudio David handling guitars. In 1987 the fourteen year old André Márcio would take over on the drum stool for 1989's 'You're Really Big' effort. The SEPULTURA connection was strengthened when Bozó designed the famous bones logo, first employed on the 'Arise' album. Guitarist Sérgio Cichovicz enrolled in 1992.
A string of Brazilian release albums followed prior to 1994's 'Progress Of Decadence' being released in North America on Fierce Recordings and Europe on Music For Nations. OVERDOSE spent the year touring America on a package bill with SKREW and SPUD MONSTERS prior to European dates including the Dynamo festival. Back home in Brazil the band undertook a headline tour before hooking up as guests to SKID ROW.
The band's 1993 'Circus Of Death' album was issued in the USA during 1999 by Pavement Records. OVERDOSE were back in North America touring with MERCYFUL FATE then CROWBAR to promote the 'Scars' album.
In 2002 OVERDOSE enlisted former SEPULTURA and THE MIST guitarist Jairo Guerez and ex-ANGEL HEART bassist Gustavo Monsanto. The band was re-structured during 2008 with Bozó, Cláudio David and André Márcio being once again joined by Fernando Pazzini and Sérgio Cichovicz.
That year a 25th anniversary OVERDOSE tribute album included Brazilian bands FRONT ATTACK LINE, POSTWAR, RAGNA, GANGRENA INC., SCARS, DESPERATA, RAPTOR, LEVISION, GUS MONSANTO & 43 % BURNT, DISORDERxOFxRAGE, L.E.T.A.L, SECCOND SIGHT, HEAVY TUBLUES, ROSA ÍGNEA, DROWNED, PULLVERIZER, ELETRIKA, KNIGHTRIDER, RAZORBOUND, KORZUS, RFT, QLIPHOTIKA, SEGNO, BREAKDOWN and FORSAKEN.
