Biography

Death Metallers ABORTED hail from Beveren, Antwerp. The band, forged in 1995 and led by Gurgloroth Sven (a.k.a. vocalist Sven De Caluwé), also included drummer Steven, from DAYS OF DEMISE, bassist Koen ("Bassturbations") and guitarist Niek ("Bulging sick string mayhem"). A second guitarist Christophe, previously with LIAR, augmented the band in 1997. This united recorded the opening demo session 'The Necrotorous Chronicles', a cassette limited to 200 copies distributed by Esophagus Records. A second demo, 'The Splat Pack', arrived in 1999. Later Steven would relinquish the drum stool to CATAFALQUE and LIFE ETERNAL man Frank Rosseau.

In this formation ABORTED signed to Uxicon Records to cut an opening album 'The Purity Of Perversion', tracked at CCR Studios, for May 1999 release. Kurt of ECTOPIA provided guest vocals to the track 'Wrenched Carnal Ornaments'. A vinyl version of this album would be limited to 500 copies and subsequent CD editions, on Soulreaper Records, came clad in different artwork.

The group entered CCR Studios once again in December 1999 and the following March Soulreaper put out a split album shared with CHRIST DENIED. With their profile rising internationally, ABORTED signed with French label Listenable Records. The 'Engineering The Dead' album, tracked at the familiar CCR Studios, emerged in July 2001.

ABORTED's next release came in the form of a four way split album in alliance with DROWNING, MISERY INDEX and BRODEQUIN for Bones Brigade Records in 2002. The group donated two tracks, the original 'Generic Murder Concept' and a cover version of NAPALM DEATH's 'Suffer The Children'.

ABORTED, incorporating session drummer Dirk Verbeuren of French act SCARVE, set about recording a Jacob Hansen produced album 'Goremageddon: The Saw And The Carnage Done' during November 2002. This record included a cover version of CARCASS' 'Carnal Forge'. Promotion saw the band on tour in Europe with IMMOLATION.

Frontman Gurgloroth 'Svencho' Sven De Caluwé would donate guest vocals to the 2002 'Angel Inside' album from fellow Belgian Death Metal act WELKIN. De Caluwé would also be active in another high profile role with Grindcore act LENG TCH'E.

Listenable Records bowed in with a further split release for 2003, a union with EXHUMED on a live recorded 10" vinyl single restricted to 500 copies. ABORTED's side, entitled 'Extirpated Live Emanations', comprised three tracks taped in concert in Lille, France the previous year. 'Goremageddon: The Saw And The Carnage Done' hit stores in April 2003. Notable inclusions would be Jacob Hansen adding guitar solos to 'Sanguine Verses' whilst Joel Sta provided lyrics to 'Ornaments Of Derision' and Leon Del Muerte also scored a co-lyricist credit for 'Clinical Colostomy'. Once again vinyl editions were limited to the usual 500 copies.

To coincide with European tour dates in April 2004 partnering CANNIBAL CORPSE the band issued a special EP release 'The Haematobic'. This outing comprised three new songs, a cover of ENTOMBED's 'Drowned' plus studio and live video clips. Long term drummer Frank bowed out at this juncture, live dates seeing Dirk Verbeuren stepping back in as substitute. Gilles Delecroix, of BELENOS, GRONIBARD and BURGUL TORKHAIN, having taken the drum position in March.

In December of 2004 ABORTED entered Antfarm Studios in Denmark with producer Tue Madsen to commence work on the album 'The Archaic Abattoir', due in April 2005 through Listenable Records. Guest vocal appearances on the album included Bo Summer of ILLDISPOSED on 'The Gangrenous Epitaph' and 'The Inertia', Michael Bogballe from MNEMIC on 'Dead Wreckoning' and Jacob Bredahl of HATESPHERE on 'Threading On Vermillion Deception'. Quite surreally the band requested fans participate in the manufacture of a limited edition version of the record, complete with 'evidence bag', by asking them to send in hair cuttings and nail clippings. The fans that contributed would be entitled to the special edition, complete with their name as 'victim' on the evidence report. North American versions of 'The Archaic Abattoir', issued in May through Olympic Recordings, would come in different sleeve art.

Guitarist Bart Vergaert quit in May 2005, a band statement revealing the ex-member was "tired of playing this kind of music". Nevertheless, ABORTED, drafting Stephane Souteyrand of French act YYRKOON as replacement, played East Coast dates with LENG TCH'E, IMPALED and MALIGNANCY and appeared at the 'Maryland Death Fest' prior to filming a promotional video for the track 'Dead Wreckoning' with director Darren Doane. North American road work continued throughout 2005, witnessing October and November shows packaged with CRYPTOPSY, CEPHALIC CARNAGE, SUFFOCATION and WITH PASSION. However, the band parted ways with guitarist Thijs de Cloedt and bassist Frederic Vanmassenhove in December, quoting "personal issues."

The band announced European tour dates for January 2006, traversing Poland, Germany, Holland, France, Belgium, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and the UK, alongside a heavyweight cast of GRAVE, HURTLOCKER, DEW-SCENTED, VESANIA and CRYPTOPSY. With guitarist Stephane Soutereyand's wife in the latter stages of pregnancy the six-stringer stood down for these dates. The ABORTED band line-up therefore added new faces Sebastian Tuvi ('Seb Purulator') of MALEFICENTIA, GARWALL, AOSOTH, GENITAL GRINDER and BALROG on plus Matty Dupont of EMETH and AGATHOCLES on guitar with Olivia Scemama of NO RETURN, GARWALL, PHAZM and BALROG repute on bass.

Scandinavian gigs would be announced for August in collaboration with CRYPTOPSY and VESANIA. The band parted ways with both drummer Gilles Delecroix and bass player Olivia Scemama in October. The latter was superseded by EMETH's Peter Goemaere, who debuted with the band in Tel Aviv, Israel. Meantime, Listenable Records issued the DVD package 'The Auricular Chronicles'.

Later that same month the group commenced tracking a fresh album 'Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture' with producer Tue Madsen at the Antfarm in Denmark. Drums on the record were taken care of by Dave Haley from Australian band PSYCROPTIC whilst standing in as session drummer for live work would be Etienne Galo from NEGATIVA. Two cover versions were laid down during the sessions, namely 'Slaughtered' from PANTERA and 'Surprise! You're Dead' from FAITH NO MORE. Studio guests on the album included Jeff Walker of CARCASS plus Jacob Bredahl and Henrik Jacobsen of HATESPHERE.

ABORTED announced Dan Wilding, previously MISERY and KILLING MODE, with as their next drummer in February 2007. In 2008 the band covered TURMOIL's 'Playing Dead' for inclusion on the Century Media artist compilation 'Covering 20 Years Of Extremes'. This double CD set comprised Century Media acts paying home to their stable mates.

The album 'Strychnine.213' was delivered in June 2008. ABORTED embarked on a European tour in with ANIMA, NEAERA and TEXTURES commencing at Hannover's Musikzentrum on 15th October.

Sébastien Tuvi and Daniel Wilding launched THE ORDER OF APOLLYON project in early 2009 in league with James McIlroy, live session guitarist for CRADLE OF FILTH, and guitarist of CHAOSANCT.
