Biography

Grindcore outfit MASTIC SCUM, founded in 1992, debuted the following year with the 'Ephemeral Cerebral Butchery' 12" single. The band has issued split singles with BLOCKHEADS and the 1996 'Riot' EP with Czech's MALIGNANT TUMOUR. Another split outing that year, the 'Fake' album in union with FLESHLESS, saw the band covering the DEAD KENNEDY's 'A Child And His Lawnmower'.

In 1997 drummer Man began doubling up his duties joining BELPHEGOR. A 1997 tape, 'Pure', was shared with MIXOMATOSIS and the following year a further tape 'Hurt', featuring live recordings, was issued in collaboration with SENSELESS. That same year MASTIC SCUM allied themselves with Japan's infamous C.S.S.O. for a split EP for the Ohne Maulkorb Productions label, the Austrians donating a crop of cover versions from the likes of DOCTOR AND THE CRIPPENS, RIGHTEOUS PIGS, UNSEEN TERROR and ELECTRO HIPPIES. A third split cassette, 'Reek' shared with Spain's HAEMORRHAGE, arrived in 2001.

MASTIC SCUM formed up a package billing of LIVIDITY, MASTER and DAMNABLE for European touring in March of 2003. US shows in 2004 to promote the 'Scars' album saw the band putting in a brief burst of August gigs partnered with LIVIDITY followed by an appearance at the 'Central Illinois Metalfest'. The band entered Recordable Studios in December 2004 to cut the album 'Mind'.
