Biography
As their name implies, Austria's VISIONS OF ATLANTIS, hailing from Bruck an der Mur, Styria, was created during August 2000 in order to generate the myth of Plato into a Symphonic Metal concept. Guitarist Werner Fiedler was previously a member of Black Metal band SANGUIS.He would be joined in this endeavour by bassist Michael Koren, singer Christian Stani and keyboard player Chris Kamper. Singer Nicole Bogner completed the line-up.
A three song demo entitled 'Morning In Atlantis' soon secured a record deal with the German Black Arrow Productions concern for the J.R. Friede produced album 'Eternal Endless Infinity', released in October 2002. Japanese versions added all three 'Morning In Atlantis' demo tracks.
Live activity in early 2003 was curtailed when Fiedler broke his arm. However, the band got back in action when they landed the support slot to the KATATONIA and FINNTROLL April 2003 Italian tour. That same year membership changes marked the introduction of vocalist Mario Plank and keyboard player Miro Holly as Kamper and Stani opted out.
VISIONS OF ATLANTIS united with Dutch act EPICA for European touring in September 2004. The band, promoting second album 'Cast Away', recorded and mixed by Peter O. Moritz at Radwerk 14 Studios, put in an appearance at the NIGHTWISH headlined 'Metal Female Voices Fest II' event held in Brussels during November. The group formed up a supporting cast comprising FLOWING TEARS, SENGIR, DARKWELL, EPICA, ASHES YOU LEAVE and SYRENS CALL.
Shows projected for January of 2005 were curtailed when guitarist Werner Fiedler succumbed to a further injury, this time damaging his hand. That same month the Russian Irond Records label re-released 'Eternal Endless Infinity', adding three exclusive demo tracks. In March VISIONS OF ATLANTIS parted ways with guitarist Werner Fiedler "due to personal reasons", replacing him with Wolfgang "Wops" Koch. Further troubles assailed the band when a previously announced appearance at the 'Carpe Noctem' festival in Wiesen, Austria was cancelled due to what an official statement described as "due to severe internal problems".
October saw the exit of Nicole Bogner, being swiftly replaced by Minneapolis, Minnesota native Melissa Ferlaak. VISIONS OF ATLANTIS teamed up with XANDRIA and Thrashers REGICIDE for the February 2006 'Romantic Darkness' German tour. Rock Empire Music would release the album 'Cast Away' across China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. To promote this achievement, the group then partnered with EDENBRIDGE for New Year shows across Taiwan and China hitting Taipei, Hong Kong, Dongguan, Shanghai and Beijing.
North American dates were scheduled for September 2007 as support to EPICA.
VISIONS OF ATLANTIS inducted new singer Joanna Nieniewska in January 2009.
