Biography
Melbourne band BUSTER BROWN's membership would go on to greater things with members ANGRY ANDERSON, Mick 'Geordie' Leech, LOBBY LOYDE and drummer Dallas 'Digger' Royal all joining ROSE TATTOO and another ex-drummer Phil Rudd (real name Rudzevecuis) becoming a member of AC/DC.
Anderson had pre-BUSTER BROWN been a member of PEACE, POWER & PURITY. The band debuted on vinyl in 1974 when live tracks 'Roll Over Beethoven' and 'Buster Brown' appeared on the compilation album 'Highlights Of Sunbury '74'. The bands original line-up comprised of Anderson, guitarists John Moon and Paul Grant, former CHOOK and ASH bassist Ian Ryan, keyboard player Chris Wilson and drummer Phil Rudd. However, in early 1974 Ryan lost his place to Mick Leech.
The band splintered at the end of the year with Rudd teaming up with AC/DC but regrouped in 1975 with Anderson, Leech, former COLOURED BALLS drummer Trevor Young and guitarist Dennis Miller. A further version emerged later the same year with an all new band behind Anderson. New recruits were guitarists Dave Springfield and Billy Miller, ex-TULLY bassist Ken Firth and former BAND OF TALABENE drummer Dallas 'Digger' Royal. Immediately prior to BUSTER BROWN Springfield, Miller and Firth had all been personnel in THE FERRETS. Guitarist LOBBY LLOYD also saw out the last days of the band prior to Anderson assembling ROSE TATTOO.
Slowly but surely Anderson drew his former BUSTER BROWN colleagues into the ranks of ROSE TATTOO with Royal joining in 1977, Leach shortly after and finally Loyde in 1979. By 1991 Leach was a member of the reformed SOUTHERN LIGHTNING.
Ex BUSTER BROWN man guitarist John Moon and bassist Ian Ryan created DA BOYS in 1976 evolving into DESERT RAT two years later.
LOBBY LLOYD issued two solo albums 'Obscreation' in 1976 and 'Live With Dubs' in 1981.
During the mid 80s Moon would forge a union with former ARIEL members vocalist Michael Rudd and bass player William F. Putt and Brown as they created W.H.Y. delving into Electronica and issuing the 'Present Tense' album in Germany. Rudd, Putt and Moon would stick together for the bar band LIVING LEGEND BLUES BAND. By 1984 this act had morphed into NUCLEAR DOG.
Word arrived in mid 2005 that the BUSTER BROWN album 'Something To Say' was finally to see a release on CD. Bonus tracks included live tracks from 1974, GTK radio sessions and ROSE TATTOO's 1980 version of 'Release Legalize'.
