Biography
Power trio A.N.I.M.A.L. ('Acosados Nuestros Indios Murieron Al Luchar') formed in 1991 with a founding line-up of ex-BESO NEGRO vocalist / guitarist Andrés Giménez, bassist Marcelo "Corbata" Corbalán and former VIOLADORES drummer Roberto "El Polaco" Zelasek. The group was originally titled ANIMAL but switched to A.N.I.M.A.L. upon the departure of Zelasek, the erstwhile member having legal title of the ANIMAL brand.
The 1993 debut album, 'A.N.I.M.A.L.' issued through Tommy Gun Music, was recorded by producer Alejandro Taranto at Estudios El Zoologico in Buenos Aires by a trio of Giménez, Corbalán and drummer Anibal Aló.The latter was fired from the band and swiftly formed RAPTOR in league with bassist Cristian "Titi" Lapola and MENTAL DISTORTION singer Fernando Sarmiento.
'Fin De Un Mundo Enfermo', produced by Mario Altamirano, followed in 1994, by which time Martín Carrizo was installed on drums. This line-up was retained for the 1996 Mario Altamirano produced set 'El Nuevo Camino Del Hombre'.These tracks were recorded in the USA, at Dorado Studio Recording in Hollywood, California.
During 1998 BOTAFOGO's Andrés Vilanova took the drum position following recording of that years 'Poder Latino' album, produced by none other than SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera. For the album sessions, ctafted in Malibu, California at Indigo Ranch Studios, the group utilised Jimmy DeGrasso, of ALICE COOPER, Y&T and MEGADETH repute. Robert Trujillo, then of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, and Christian Olde Wolders of FEAR FACTORY, supplied guest bass parts.
'Usa Toda Tu Fuerza', again cut at Indigo Ranch Studios with Max Cavalera behind the desk once again, saw release through Warner Bros. in 1999. A closing cover version of AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell' witnessed a guest session by Lemmy Kilmister of MOTÖRHEAD. The band underwent further changes in 2000, Giménez being joined by a new rhythm section of ex-RAPTOR bassist Christian Lapolla and drummer Marcelo Castro.
The 'Animal 6' album, hosting cover versions of 'Represión', by VIOLADORES and featuring VIOLADORES singer Pil Trafa, and 'Mañana En El Abasto', originally by SUMO and including SUMO guitarist Ricardo Mollo, arrived in 2001. The track 'Raza Castigada' featured BRUJERIA's Pinche Pil. Universal Music issued the 2004 A.N.I.M.A.L. album 'Combativo'.
In 2005 Andrés Giménez guested on the DIA DE LOS MUERTOS project album 'Day Of The Dead' assembled by BODY COUNT bassist Vincent Price, and guitarist Andres Jaramillo and drummer Alfonso Pinzon from the Colombian Metal act AGONY.
In January 2006 Andrés Giménez announced that A.N.I.M.A.L. had disbanded.
