Italian-Swiss guitarist Vic Vergat was originally a member of the Rock trio TOAD, a band that he formed in London aged seventeen. TOAD recorded five albums, featuring Vergat (real name Vittorio Vergeat), bassist Werner Fröhlich and ex-BRAINTICKET drummer Cosimo Lampia. Whilst in the UK, the teen Vergat had claimed a formative link to HAWKWIND. The guitarist also appeared on the 1979 PAGANINI single 'Weapon Of Love'.

Changing his name to ensure it was easier to pronounce, Vergat hooked up with German producer Dieter Dierks, then known primarily for his work with the SCORPIONS, and recorded a solo album titled 'Down To The Bone' for EMI Harvest. Whilst the album boasted a rhythm section of bassist Guy Rollinger and drummer Gerhard Jerlach, Vergat assembled a touring line-up comprised of the American duo of bassist Tom Croucier and drummer Bobby Blotzer. Whilst Croucier played later with a formative line-up of DOKKEN, Blotzer returned to America and would find himself an integral part of the San Diego based RATT with Croucier's brother Juan on bass.
