SPOCK'S BEARD gathered huge praise on mainland Europe with their unashamed forays into complex and often lengthy ProgRock marathons. SPOCK'S BEARD is renowned for holding the listener's attention over tracks that can last in excess of twenty minutes each. The band comprises all highly accomplished players much in demand on the session circuit.
The band originally gigged under the name of ONE and employed a now anonymous bassist. With the name change to SPOCK'S BEARD, after the famous 'Star Trek' parallel universe episode, the Morse brothers vocalist / keyboard player Neal and guitarist Alan and drummer Nick D'Virgilio enlisted Dave Meros on bass, a man whose credits include live duties with BOBBY KIMBALL and the ERIC BURDON BAND. A second keyboard player, RYO OKUMOTO, was drafted in 1993.
The band was offered a deal with an independent label but opted to self finance their debut. SPOCK'S BEARD made their grand entrance with 'The Light' album released by Syn-Phonic Records in 1995. Containing a set of sprawling musical landscapes that evoked the 70s Prog heydays SPOCK'S BEARD won over hardened Prog fans with ease. Rare for an album of the genre the sleeve artwork also warned listeners that the 'F' word was employed and advised caution! The British Giant Electric Pea label would pick the album up for European distribution. ...
