Progressive Rock
QUEST (UK)
LINE UP
Ritchie Gallioni (vocals), Myf Isaac (guitar), Ray Jones (bass), Steve Williams (drums)
Progressive Rock act out of Cardiff that managed quite an impact upon the rock world through the exploits of its ex-members. The band was founded, originally titled ACE, in 1973 with former RATSO vocalist Ritchie Gallioni and erstwhile SMOKESTACK men guitarist Myf Isaacs and bassist Ray Jones. Drums were supplied by Steve Williams of IONA, the act that would later retitle itself LONE STAR and give guitarist PAUL CHAPMAN to UFO and vocalist JOHN SLOMAN to URIAH HEEP.
The band changed name to QUEST when a London Pop act titled ACE scored a hit single. At this juncture, THIN LIZZY manager Chris O'Donnell offered them a contract if they would relocate to London and retitle themselves YOUNG LIONS. The band refused.
A tour of Germany ensued, after which Williams joined leading Welsh rockers BUDGIE. The band pulled in a second guitarist and drummer from another Cardiff act JAMES HOGG, but further ructions hit hard when Jones departed for LONE STAR and Isaacs quit to join Williams in BUDGIE...
