1998 began on a sour note for TOMMY LEE, the drummer not only being served with divorce papers by wife Pamela Anderson but also facing a jail term for assaulting the actress. Indeed, Lee was initially sentenced to six months after breaking a probation order incurred on him for an assault on a photographer some months previously. Lee's prison term came at a time when MÖTLEY CRÜE announced that they had parted company from Elektra and had plans to go it alone on their own Mötley label (distributed by BMG). As the band's immediate future looked uncertain VINCE NEIL spent the downtime continuing his association with motor sport working as a celebrity crew man with the FedEx Champ Car series racing outfit Team Green, who Neil's Canadian buddy Paul Tracy and Scot Dario Franchitti drove for during 1998.
Neil himself was also involved in a sex tape scandal when a video involving the singer and two girls (one of whom was Janine Lindenmulder) appeared although, unlike the Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson tape, Neil was reported to be unconcerned about its availability...
