LINE UP
Trent Gardner (vocals / keyboards), Wayne Gardner (guitar), Hal Stringfellow Imbrie (bass)
Formed in 1985 by the Gardner brothers, Trent and Wayne, MAGELLAN earned themselves a solid reputation as one of America's rising Progressive Rock bands thanks to a constant stream of local shows. They eventually came to the attention of Shrapnel Records boss Mike Varney and ex THE RODS manager Peter Morticelli who, at the time, were putting together a Progressive specialist label, Magna Carta and were the new label's first signings, gaining a deal in 1990. Trent came from a bizarre background as a trombonist before discovering Progressive Rock.
The band's first album, 'Hour Of Restoration' had one third completed before the Magna Carta deal. MAGELLAN quickly found themselves amongst the leading Progressive Rock outfits to have emerged in the 90s.
The 1993 album 'Impending Ascension' has session drums from ex-JETHRO TULL and DRAGON drummer Doane Perry. MAGELLAN took their YES comparisons a liitle further by contributing a cover of 'Don't Kill The Whale' on the Varney / Morticelli compiled, Roadrunner released YES tribute album in 1995...
