KANSAS guitarist KERRY LIVGREN first ventured into a solo career with the release of his 'Seeds Of Change' album in 1980. Livgren finally departed the hugely successful Pomp Rock outfit in 1982 to assemble the pro- Christian Melodic Rock outfit A.D. ("Anno Domini") in alliance with KANSAS colleague Dave Hope on bass guitar, this move enabling Livgren to promote his strongly held beliefs musically in a way that within the constraints of KANSAS he had been unable to do. Livgren had attempted another solo outing in 1984 with the 'Time Line' album for CBS Records, but felt this was under promoted. He then broke away to found A.D. and the following year issued 'Art Of The State' on the independent Kerygma label.
Playing adventurous orchestral Rock A.D., would comprise Livgren, Hope, ex-BLOODROCK and BLACK ROSE member Warren Ham on lead vocals, keyboard player Michael Gleason and percussionist Dennis Holt. The 1986 album, 'Reconstructions', would primarily be constructed by Livgren and Gleason. A.D.'s final studio offering would be the 1988 set 'Prime Mover', seeing a remake of the KANSAS track 'Portrait'. However, by this stage the band was in fact down to a duo of Livgren and Ham...
