Pomp Rock legends KANSAS evolved from the earlier act WHITE CLOVER founded in 1970 by high school compatriots guitarist KERRY LIVGREN, bassist Dave Hope and drummer Phil Ehart. With the addition of vocalist STEVE WALSH, guitarist Rich Williams and violinist Robby Steinhardt the band adopted a new title of KANSAS in 1972.

KANSAS initially adopted a lush and ambitious progressive rock sound but the late seventies found the group pursuing a more mainstream hard rock direction. The band toured heavily in their formative years, including support to THE DOORS, eventually signing to a new label created by American rock guru Don Kirschner. A couple of well received albums, produced by Jeff Glixman, would generate a genuine ground swell of fan support and by 1975's 'Masque' the group were able to sell over a quarter of a million copies. The follow up 'Leftoverture', released in 1976 and going on to eclipse the platinum sales mark no less than three times over, catapulted the band to stardom borne on the huge success of radio hit 'Carry On Wayward Son'...
