Brazilian Christian Power Metal act ETERNA debuted with the 1997 'Shema Israel' album. The band was originally a trio comprising vocalist bassist Alexandre Emanuel, guitarist Paulo Frade and drummer Danilo Lopes. A sophomore outing, 1999's 'Papyrus', was issued the following year in Europe with different artwork on the Italian Scarlet label.

ETERNA added two new members, vocalist Leandro Cacoilo and bass player Jason Freitas, for recording of the 2001 album 'The Gate'. The September 2004 album 'Epiphany' would be produced by Ricardo Nagata. In 2004 ex-drummer Danilo Lopes, also active with CEREMONYA, assembled the project band RYGEL, an assemblage of scene veterans including PUSH frontman Paulo Sérgio, Karol Silvestre, ex-HARVEST MOON and the former WARKINGS, VIPER, MERLIN and BLASFEMIA guitarist RODRIGO ALVES.
