A Gothic flavoured Alt-Rock act founded by vocalist Christian Riou during 1984. During this formative period Chris Sharp occupied the bass position on occasion. Signing to Island Records the band recorded the debut, Ron Fair and Ralph Jezzard produced 'Through The Veil' album at Jam Studios in Finsbury Park. As an added bonus the vinyl versions of 'Through The Veil' featured extra remixed tracks. The album made it to no. 74 in the UK charts.
Switching labels to EMI Records CLAYTOWN TROUPE cut their next album David Bianco produced album 'Out There' at the Hit Factory, New York. CLAYTOWN TROUPE toured Britain with support act TERRORVISION in 1992 and subsequently opened for Seattle Grunge kings PEARL JAM. The band's second album, 'Out There', was produced by David Bianco. However, the band folded when, after parting company with EMI, drummer Andy Holt and bassist Paul Waterson made their exit.
CLAYTOWN TROUPE would be active again during 2004, Christian Riou and Rick Williams being joined by original bassist Chris Sharp, also holding ALTASTATE credits, plus new members Clive Murray on guitar and drummer Dan Roth. The reformed band headlined the Whitby Goth festival in 2004.
